1 Ton YJ Crawler build

Tell her she should be pissed at the builder for hiding it.

tbh, they did a shockingly good job. I figured it was going to just be sheetrock glued on, but they riveted wood along the bottom and then sheetrocked around that. House was built in the mid 90s so my expectations weren't high, but this should making taking the engine in and out MUCH easier than using a standard hoist. Planning on getting some dollies so i can move the jeep around underneath it. I also added a chain to the top so I lowered the actual hoist - getting the engine out of the truck was sketchy and annoying at the limit of the hoist

I couldn't imagine using that type of hoist for that, I would highly recommend THIS type, other than the direction part of the chain getting caught every now and then they're pretty spiffy...

That's the exact one I was going to get, but they were sold out at my local store. Grabbed what I could and went with it. The crank is kind of a pain, but not as bad as I expected

Started cleaning up the motor yesterday, this is going to take a while. Everything turns over ok, valvetrain acts like it should, so I think I'm going to run with it. Need to clean the heads up. Not sure of the best way to clean up that build up on intake?

Valvetrain looked great when I turned it by hand

Feeling a bit more urgency because my driveline in the jeep is FUCKED. Oil leaking from the motor, transmission is leaking. Everything is just beat on a little too hard

Really cool rig! I have done a couple LS swaps so I know my way around them. Not sure what you plan to run for management, but the factory stuff works just fine (check out 150tunes.com). Biggest deal is the pickup tube Oring. Definitely replace it with new and maybe installing the pickup tube girdle for piece of mind. Other than that, these engines are cheap, stout, and take a licking. I certainly wouldnt rebuild one. If this one goes south, buy an another and jam it in!

I popped a motor on initial start up due to a high torque starter and a leaking injector, so Id suggest turning it over for the first time with no plugs in, should you be using unknown injectors.

I think I'm going to drop the coin on the Holley system. I have about half a factory harness and no ecu with this motor, the Terminator X system is expensive but looks like it'll simplify a lot and speed up everything. Would like to put a TH400 behind it, but finding one locally has been a pain so I might end up with a 4L60e

For the motor I'm planning on a high volume oil pump, new rear main, timing chain, gaskets and then send it. Keeping the stock truck intake on it. Replace all the accessories with new as well

If you can find a 4l80e, it will handle a lot more abuse. I think they came in the 3/4 ton and heavier vans and trucks.

Not personal experience. I have just worked with a bunch of chevy-lovin' motorheads over the years.

Yeah I have my eyes open for pretty much any GM auto right now, upside to the newer ones is not needing the adapter I suppose

A little thing this weekend - when I installed my LevelIt for the ORIs I had to take my HiLIft out. I hate these things, but it's important to have, but I had to cut mine down to fit in here. It works, but I'll probably wrap some velco around the LevelIt to protect it as well

Found my leak - trans pan is whipped and leaking a bit. Got a new one to replace it and pulled the skid. Just need to get a little time to swap it out

I think those tires are older than I am... LOL
