What did YOU do today?

There, the easy part is done. Now I just have to move the shed onto the pad and put my shop together. And find metal to replace the tarps with.

found a tractor tire today for $100. My 8N came with mismatched (size) back tires, the 11.2 is actually the correct tire but its the worst tire of the two condition wise, so even though the 12.4 tire is a little big, I now have 2 good back tires the same size. It kind of bugged me with the 4” difference. Just have to take out the 9N/2N center & put my 8N center in. The rim itself looks very good. That alone is well worth it.

What I’m going to do.

Full lunar eclipse tonight. In Atlanta, the full moon is supposed to be about 220 am. The lunar eclipse starts at about midnight, full about 3 o’clock, and then it’s gone by 6 AM. If I set the alarm at 3, that’s only a couple hours before Lincoln gets my ass out of bed anyway.

Went to work, installed Windows on five laptops. Taught someone how to use Word and Excel who made the excuse that they don't know much about computers because they are 55. That's not an excuse. I'm 57. There was free food at work and I ate too much. When I got home I took the trash out and one of my cats decided to run out the door. It took 20 minutes to round him up. When I opened the door to toss him in one of the other cats ran out, so another 20 minutes to round up the other cat. Then I decided to look up ham radio swap meets because I have computer stuff to sell. There's one coming up on the 22nd. So, I'm going to prepare for that.

Spring is coming and its almost time to bring the Capri out of hibernation. Quick suspension and LSD refresh as well as a gear ratio swap. Fresh paint as is tradition.

I look forward to taking the bronco out of daily service. Call me Corb the way I'm discovering I'm hard on equipment. I can watch the oil pressure gauge move as the crank walks and will need to save money and mental strength 😬

Keep the stuff and swap the cats….

Decided to putz around in the shop tonight and play with some things since the weather was garbage tonight. My brothers forklift tractor is still in my shop and really the only major thing left to work on with it was the shifter that someone before us broke off, it's got a pivot that pulls a lockout linkage so somewhat technical... and of course parts of it are cast iron... I think I have some nickel rod but didn't have the patience to deal with that in the confined area so flux core it is (if I remember right that is better than MIG for cast iron... whatever, it stuck and works...). Not the prettiest thing since well flux core for one and for two everything I used was from scrap I found floating around the shop... On the plus side my little Titanium 125 welder I got open box for $80 works just fine.

Tomorrow I'm hoping to get the giant stainless sink/counter thing my brother got that needs some TIG welding repair into the shop (needs the forklift tractor, it's like 9' long) so I can finish that and drag the forklift tractor and that over to his place this weekend sometime so I can do maintenance to the F350 before I go camping next weekend... Just gotta do little things to the F350 like an oil change in the engine and transmission, install a stereo that should show up tomorrow and do some welding on the bed since there's cracks in the front top corners... I'm sure there's more piddly stuff I'm forgetting

With my hand crumpled up and heading for surgery next Friday, I’ve been stuck with doing some paperwork and a lot of planning. Fortunately, the surgery is supposed to be straightforward, and there’s supposed to be instant relief, although it may not fully recover.

So today I went to the wholesale nursery to start putting together the plan for redoing the landscaping out front along with other outside work. This is the year for that recovery.

With the help of the little kid from a few doors up, I took some turf builder weed and feed and spread it over the beauty strip (the 2 foot strip between the sidewalk and the street), and the area that’s right outside the front door and bay window. And then I over seeded it with some of the germinated grass seed. I bought those two bags about a year and a half ago.

Hopefully the storm will soak it in and I’ll start getting some real grass back. We’re supposed to get an inch of rain from midnight to 5 AM.

was a very windy , wet day here. Had a 3 hour power outage so got to fire up the generator & try it out. Didn’t use much fuel like I thought it would. Ive had the generator about 3 years now & though I run it about twice a year but this was the first time Ive actually needed it.

Went to work. Didn't want to, but it'll make my week a little easier next week. Some big inspection coming through the week afternext, and our big boss decided last friday that we were going to change out material handling procedures. Typically all removed parts have been stored with the aircraft. Now they want anything we aren't using within 5 days sent to a central storage location. I'm good with that, but we don't have process in place and it's rather short notice for us to properly comply with in that time period. You don;t make changes like this a week before an inspection because things will be rushed and not go right. Today allowed me some extra time to get things setup for processing all of these parts next week. Y'all don;t want to hear me complain about work though.

Stopped by and visited my parents after, then got home and proceeded to pickup from ongoing F-250 project. Supposed to be some severe weather coming though in the next several hours. Only thing that would have hurt from the rain was probably the shop vac, but didn't want the wind trying to carry anything off. With everything picked up and plenty of daylight left I got started on the next phase of the maintence. Fuel bowl has been removed for rebuild/reseal and installation of fuel return and oil pressure crossover lines. Hopefully weather will be cleared up by the time I wake up and can get that part of it finished.

Currently watching the SpaceX Crew-10 docking live on the NASA site. They've docked and the hatches should open soon, but I'm probably not waiting up for it any longer. After seeing the NASA control room, I've got a new computer goal. 5 monitors. Clarification... 5 of the same, and good quality, monitors. Since I'm not willing to pay for and don't particularly need that for my home uses, I'm going to have to see if I can justify getting work to pay for it. It would occupy the entirity of the desk space in my cubicle, but I'd never have to switch between tabs in a browser to do my job. I could have every program I need open in a different window and visible at the same time. (Seriously I'm not going to go for 5, but a third would be nice. I think I'll have to get it myself though.)

I think I got more done than I thought I would! I think I'm on track... the shifter I made for my brothers forklift tractor works great, used it to move the sink into the shop then proceeded to TIG weld for at least a couple hours... went well all said and done, when I was in a good position the welds look great but in the awkward spots that's not as good... some people have told me TIG welding stainless is easier than mild and I think I believe them... although I did about grind through my first tungsten... didn't help that at one point it splintered which wasted an inch, not sure what's going on with that but whatever...

While I was welding my brother showed up, once I was done we loaded the sink in the bed of the F350 then loaded the tractor on the trailer behind a power harrow that apparently we should have moved the 8" forward that we could have... the 12 mile drive to his place afterward was done at 40mph with it wagging at every iffy spot in the road, not the best feeling with like 12k pounds behind you wanting to pull you into the 4' deep ditch...

Then I helped him put the deck of his front deck mower back together...

So, successful day! Now I get to pull the F350 into the shop tomorrow and start the work on it...

Monitors: Just a thought.

I’ve picked them up at Goodwill for 10 to 25 bucks, and the $25 one was like a 40 inch. Sometimes the used ones might be heavier and or not as crisp and clear. But if you’re using more than two, you could probably put critical visual stuff on the new ones, and whatever on the old ones.

Maybe put a “wanted“ on craigslist or Facebook marketplace.

When I’m looking for something, I put this in as the picture. It draws peoples attention, and I put what I’m looking for as the second third and fourth picture, and also the name in the header.

My two cents, hope it helps
