My 92 short bed transformation

looking good. nice looking Ranger. How difficult was it to get the jetta seats mounted? look like they fit pretty well

they took a lot of cutting and custom brackets to mount in. Honestly I wouldn’t do it again. And I still would prefer a stock bench seat. But these were cheap. So I made them work.

So here’s the interior all finished.

Today was the day to fix the air conditioning.
I picked up a new old stock dash control unit. And replaced that
New ac compressor
Condenser
Dryer
And both ac hoses.

I decided to try something I’ve read a lot about. That is using air duster cans to charge the ac system. The trick is, to find ones that contain hfc152a. That is very close to r12. But compatible in both r12 and r134a systems. It operates at a lower head pressure. And runs cooler.

After pulling a vacuum for 45 mins. I charged the system. 1 can of duster made this ac feel like the old r12 system. It’s ice cold. If you are completely redoing an older ac system. I highly recommend it. At your own risk ofcourse.

I'm with you on the bench seat. Of Ranger seats, the bench seems to be my best fit for a first gen standard cab. I will be exterimenting on my current first gen though. It's a factory bucket and console truck, but had a busted bench seat installed when I got it. I want to put it back to "factory" style seats because you don't see many with that configuration. I have a set of first gen Bronco II buckets that I'm going to try out. Might also try a set of foxbody buckets, the ones that look like (& maybe are) Recaros. If those don't fit well I'll go back to the bench. I wouldn't fit with a newer, thicker seat like those you installed.

Never heard of that. How do you get it into the system? I'll stick with 134 on the 99 Ranger, but I might give it a try on the 85 when it's turn comes. What are those blue plier things and, if they are for what I think, where did you get them?

@JoshT it’s called a can tap. It pierces a can and seals around it. Then You hook your r12/r134 hose to it. And that’s how you can use a duster can to fill your ac system. I got mine here. https://a.co/d/004aOMr6
Not at all what I thought. I thought it was just for holding and moving the freezing cans.

I wonder who decided to come up with that or thought that it was needed. For 90% of servicing screwing a tap valve on top of the can works just fine. That said, having one of those would have saved me a can of R134 a few months ago. I had one self sealing can that had a bad valve on the top, once tapped it wouldn't open enough to dispense and wouldn;t close enough to seal. With one of those I could have left the vlave on top to seal and gone through the side for charging.

I'll have to pick one up in the not too distant future.

Your Ranger is looking great ! I'm glad that you saved the truck. You don't see many black Rangers. I like to back interior too.
