so i found this kit for the 302 swap. i have been reading abt this swap for quite a long time but can’t seem to find all the information that i need. i have an 88 tbird 302, AOD tranny, and an 8.8 rear end readily available. but i can’t find a thread on EVERYTHING i need to do this swap. i know that the explorer is a direct swap, but i do not want EFI. why won’t this kit work on an 01? what’s the difference between a 97 and an 01 that makes this incompatible ? what ALL parts do i really need to make this 302 run in my ranger ? my truck is a 2001 ford ranger 2.5 5 speed single cab. please help, and thank you in advance !

Ford changed the entire engine bay and front suspension in '98.

It's fine to swap in a V8 to a 2001

The Explorer EFI V8 has the lower intake manifold that fits under the Ranger's hood which is why its best, for EFI swap
With a carb and regular intake you will be fine

2001 will have 55psi fuel system

i don’t mind to completely remove the hood. i’ve seen you on this forum quite a lot, do you know why this 97below kit won’t work on my truck ? what do you mean “regular intake”? what all parts will i need to do this carb swap

Might be the motor mounts, 1998 and up could use explorer 5.0l mounts

Have a read here: https://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/5_0_swap_in_newer_ranger.shtml

2001 would used computer for speed signals
The AOD should have speedometer cable hook up, and maybe the VSS(vehicle speed sensor) combo unit(1988), but they are available if its not there
You can wire that type of VSS directly to speedometer and cruise
You will most likely have to change the driven gear tooth count, but easy to do

Combo unit looks like this: https://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/images/speedsensor.gif
Has speedo cable hookup and 2 wire VSS plug in
Ford started using electric cruise units in the late 1980's and electric shift transmissions, which is why they needed a VSS sensor
