After 160K miles, the wheel bearings are due. Tire noise can cover bearing noise and vice versa. Even if you don't hear noise, look at it as preventive maintenance. I completely replaced the front bearings on my Ranger at about 106,000 six months ago since they were due for repacking anyway and previous shops had mixed incompatible greases during front brake service.160 thousand & change. Didnt hear any bearing noise, I know its a possibility.
On the Escape, your bearings are probably prelubed and sealed. You replace them, but don't need to worry about packing them.
The Ford Festiva I had years ago began going through wheel bearings like crazy after a certain point, and all were replaced before 100K miles. After many miles, even using Timken bearings and the best moly grease available at the time, I was doing well to get 10K miles out of a rear set. The outer rear wheel bearings were a well-known Festiva weakness. They were too small for the job.
