Best bare bones v8 block to start.

I thought the Ford version of the M90 was a side port model.. As in passenger side.

On the Ford m90 it's a rear inlet with a throttle body adapter to the pass side and a square 4 bolt top outlet with an adapter to a tube.
Have you noticed NONE of my threads stay anywhere remotely close to being on the rails?

Yeah... see above.

You just reminded me... I have a 5.0 I pulled from a 91 Cougar XR-7 tucked in a corner under a work bench in my garage. I should do something with that.
I cant find a decent 5.0 at a reasonable price for shit, and you have one "just laying around" FML:bad:

For a low mileage unit, you have to pay for it.. Deals are extremely hard to find these days and a guy can find himself waiting forever.

Just laying around with under 90k miles on it. One owner. Well maintained. I've know the owner since he before he bought the car.

There's a ton of them at my local junkyards. 125 a peice. Roll the dice on how good it is.

You guys aren't really talking about swapping in a junkyard engine without rebuilding it first, are you? A basic rings, bearings, valve job overhaul isn't that tough.

Thanks , i needed some salt on that wound (sarcasm)

I'm not. I just prefer to know the condition of a motor before I pay any money for it. I know that the motor I have didn't have a knock, no spun bearings, etc.

You're welcome.

Some people think I paid too much for my 302/AOD combo at $1200 shipped to me, complete with the entire car's wiring harness and ECU. But it had a verified 32,000 miles on it, the car reflected that, and I got a 12 month guarantee it would be a good engine just by talking to the guy on the phone. I even had him put it in writing. They'd send another engine to me of equal value and mileage if there was something majorly wrong with mine.

Truck runs like a scalded dog to this day and burns no oil whatsoever. Not bad for a junkyard engine from the era when they came with forged pistons. (I had always planned to use a power adder sometime in the near future)

Now, the AOD ended up having a smoked OD band after installing it, so I switched to a manual trans, but I still sold that AOD for $200 because it was a low mileage trans and those are getting hard to find. I really wanted a 5spd anyway, so it was kind of a blessing the AOD had the OD band smoked. It made me spend the money for a brand new Modern Driveline front shift rear socket T5Z.

Sometimes you just gotta locate the lowest mileage 302 you can find and bite the bullet and pay for it. Quit dreaming and start building. ;)

I did.

It looked clean under the intake and valve covers, dropped the pan and everything looked good down below too. New crank seals and associated gaskets and it ran pretty well.

8 years later I drove it to Ohio. Used a little oil but didn’t miss a beat.

I wish I could find another just like it to rebuild for $150 like I did that one.

I assume that's the right M90 for the ModdBox kit. Amiright?
ModdBox kit

Yup. That's the correct one.
Well damn! I might actually have to do this then. It's still $1800 for 60ish HP though. $30/hp might not be the best bang for the buck.

Banshee superchargers also makes a kit to allow a GM M90 to ve bolted to a Ford 4.0. They're all on clearance on eBay right now.
I looked at those on ebay, but they're not really selling the complete kit, only the manifold and plenum parts and the plenum hasn't been machined yet. That leaves a lot of other parts and pieces to source individually. I went to their webpage and it hasn't been updated since 2011, so that turned me off on it a little. Plus, their kit doesn't look nearly as refined as the ModdBox kit. I may try to call them and see just how complete a kit they can give and for what price, but I don't hold out much hope for it. If I do this, I'm not looking for a drawn out build, I don't have the time (or motivation) for it. It would have to be a pretty cut and dry install that I could pull off in a day or two.
