I have 1997 Ford Ranger 4.0l 4x4 I have replaced the following 202,000 miles

-Water pump
-water pump pulley
-Radiator
-Thermostat
-Radiator cap
-Radiator and cooling hoses

All winter long my truck has done fine first real hot day my A/C quits on me and going down the Freeway at 80mph my truck runs at around 235-240 degrees but in town and anywhere else driving 220 or so

The radiator I replaced my old one with wasn't as thick as the oem don't know if that makes a difference.

I think the smaller radiator is the problem , Check Napa for options for your truck.
I think radiators for a/c vehicles are bigger.

I was wondering that also but when I replaced the radiator I was never asked if I had a/c or not so I didnt think it was an issue. I was reading there is one radiator that is 1 inch thick the other is 2 inches I need the bigger one I will try that with a new cap and see what happens.

Also verify that this is a real problem as opposed to an instrumentation issue...

Oh yea that was the first thing I did I know how electronics like to mess with ya!

I ordered a new radiator today should be in soon once I replace that and the AC parts highway here I come I will keep ya posted.

All Is well

I have replaced the radiator with the correct one so for anyone who reads this be sure to check the depth of the radiator there is a 1" which I assume is for a truck with no A/C. Then there is a 2" thick one which I also assume is for a truck with A/C. Once I replaced the radiator the truck no longer over heats so that seems to have been the problem all along.
