Twister 85 B2 Build

That tiny bellhousing makes me feel good... much better than my bloated C5 bellhousing. :D

On mine I swapped mounts back and forth like three times and could never get the DS stud to come back far enough to suit me. Mine was about 1/2" farther ahead than yours. One mount has the stud farther back than the other and when switched I think it was on the passenger side. I ended up ordering another one of those for the drivers side and it worked out great. I did that before I cut the slots though.

I have never heard of anyone else having the same problem I did with that mount. :dntknw:

I was surprised on mine how shallow the bellhousing was. But even s big as they are, I can get my hands on the bolts much easier then my old tk4.

Maybe our trucks were made on the same day lol

Almost all the bolts for the bellhousing are accessable from the engine compartmant.

I could get mine from the engine compartment but getting a wrench on the bolt heads was almost impossible along with getting my hand in there.

But not that I want to test how easy it is to get them out any time soon.

So am I correct in saying the sn95 mustangs use the sane timing cover as the explorers. I might just buy a new one, all the explorers at u pull it the water pump bolts were screwed so I couldn't get any of the timing covers off and there was were no 5.0 mustangs.

IIRC 2-17-1985.

Here is my adventures with the engine mounts:

Thanks to my body lift mine wasn't too bad, there was one bolt that was a PITA that the bellhousing ribs teamed up with the firewall seam to really limit access to the bolt. Couldn't get on it from the back because of the seam and couldn't get on it from the side because of the ribs. Had to inch it out with a stubby open end wrench moving it a tiny bit, flip, tiny bit flip... I couldn't get it out of the trans with the trans in the truck so it had to ride out with the trans and go back in with the trans. It fought hard enough coming out it almost got "forgotten" to put back in. :annoyed:

It was still easier than the 2.8/A4LD was pre-bodylift though. It took like 3' of extensions to get to the two top bolts on that critter. :icon_thumby:

Looks like it, but dunno...

You can get new ones from the parts stores, $90-$140 though... With my shop discount it was around $65, when I priced one last year.

I say ask some mustang guys on some forums and/or see if part numbers are the same from some part stores.

Did some searching, seems like the guy selling it has it listed wrong. He lists a Ford part number from the timing cover, and with a little a little searching, it turns out to be an explorer cover so I went ahead and ordered one. Also picked up the water pump pulley also the thermostat neck just in case.

This swap may seem like a pain in the ass but I will say, it is well worth the work in the end.

Maybe one day I will try and get an explorer FEAD on my truck, I would like to have the extra front clearance between the fan and water pump.

This last one is of the tranny inside the car, to me it doesn't seem like it fits as well as i was lead to believe, but it is far better than where the v8 version would have been, and that with the engine touching the firewall which is too far back. So i am going to need to cut just a tad in front of where the shifter will be.

I was looking back through this and though "wait a minute, something was goofy with my shifter hole"

I wonder if manuals and automatics have different cab floors? Per the buildsheet mine was originally an automatic but I have long suspected someone has put a different cab on it.

You can see how well the automatic floorplate fits my opening. There is a piece of another floorplate (the manual one I suppose) that bolts down and pins the front of the automatic plate down) It ain't right and it bugs me but I was going to redo it when I put in my new carpet kit... which is now on hold until I get an M5OD in it.

Hmm you maybe On to something. They do look to be different from the pics.

If I remember right, the autos had a different opening. Years ago I bought a ranger, kept a bunch of parts of of it then scrapped it, and it was an auto and its floor plate fit without any gaps.

I wonder if your truck was a manual to begin with and had an auto put in it...

Hmm, that would be weird if they were. Picked up an alternator and harmonic balancer today. The explorer front end sure has some weird looking parts. I put the harmonic balancet on the counter at the junkyard. The guy behind the counter looked at me funny and asked what it was from. Told him a 5.0 explorer. He jokingly says, so that's what's on the front my my motor in my explorer lol.

Anyway, took a pic to compare the fox body harmonic balancer and main pulley vs the explorer one. Its amazing how much shorter the explorer one is. Explorer is in the right and mustang is on the left.
