Why a v8

this whole thread has gotten out of hand:pissedoff:, it wasnt suppsoed to comparing 2.3 turbo to anything else, he was talkin about a stock 302 in a ranger with stock gearing bein a total turd vs a 4.0 ranger geared

:dntknw: but the squabling is entertaining when your bored at work

i argee it is, lol, if i were building a rock truck then of course i would want a FI 4.0 vs a stock carbed 302, even geared...... but like i end up sayin alot on here its just about the kind of wheelin u do, id say about 80% of the people on here do rocks and tight trails of that nature, i do trails and mud, im in the minority so my opinion will ALWAYS differ on what a truck needs

:Di beg to differ, i think 80% of the poeple on here drive their RBVs to high school and then play in cornfeilds between study hall and curfew......:taunt:

hmmm touche, alright, lets say 20% rocks, 20% mud, 60% is pussy oriented(the quest to get pussy)

Aha! Finally the REAL reason for a v8!

have done both 302 and 4.0 swaps....i like the 4.0 better

the deck is kinda stacked aganst the v-8 in my op.if you regear the 4.0 and not the v8 swap to run bigger tires.
and a turbo vs plain carb............gimmie a break.you can break out your slide rules and degree from blah blah and your 14 patches from asi (no disrespect for education)and beat this to death on the tech side.
build it for what you want to do with it and enjoy it.
look at the well thought out builds on here.......theres plenty...running v8 and v6.
ive been here off and on a while now and see some great rigs, and cheap thrills...i have cringed at some of the videos youve posted....awesome!ive been screwing with my truck for 5 years now and its still not done(job and everyday life keep getting in the way)ive named it PROJECT OVERKILL its what i want and how i want to do it.....my money or lack there of......lol
and i just scored a pair of 60's.............back under the knife!

All I know is that I am gonna buy a second 4.0 block to rebuild for an extra as well as a manual tranny swap. Personally, if I wanted better off road power, I would do a doubler rather than a V8 swap. One day I too will join the 100 club.

u go on beleivein what u want, ill jsut keep in mind to put ur motor advice along with ur advice on cats.....
thats fine.. not tryin to be a dick, but i get tired of seein all these guys that add a few parts and then all of a sudden its a 400hp race motor, when in reality it might break 240 to the wheels. 350 rwhp is very damn stout and isnt found very normally in a bolt on stock head. if you do have 350 where did you dyno it

last time i knew, a gt40 worked to its max wasnt a bolt on stock head, accoridng to the bench flow numbers(u know what that is right) i flow more cfm's then a aftermarket trickflow head. it was dynoed at 347 whp curtosey of my buddys down at suttons speed shop. when i started with this motor stock it had a little bit over 220whp, this is a 68 block, im runnin atleast 10-1 compression. with the amount fo work ive done i think 130 is a respectable gain to the rear wheels

thsi motor was pulled from a 68 gt350 that was gettin a 347 TT

yes a gt 40 is a stock head, ported or not. im not a retard. i know quite a bit. if you did get 350, good for you.very impressive. still hard to grasp, but it is possible i guess. although i do know a LOT of dynos around here that are very inflated when compared to the real world. id be willing to bet that its not a mustang dyno, especially since a stock 5 liter does not dyno 220 rwhp usually

noone else was makin a big deal about it, ur the one that started this big giant argument, i told u before, if u dont beleive me fine, but i know what i got

and what the hell are u talkin about it being a mustang dyno??it dont matter what kind of dyno it is, they dyno everything on it, they have the only rwd/awd/fwd selectable dyno in the area, so im sure the dyno is VERY accurate

well if you dont know what a mustang dyno is,then that explains alot...it doesnt mean its for 'mustangs' if thats what your thinking. and yes it does matter what kind of dyno it is. it matters alot actually. so now i 'know' you dont have over 400 hp. you have been duped by the neat numbers a dyno spits out, as have many others.

well to be on topic...it depends on what stock 4.0 and what stock 5.0 you are comparing. a pushrod 4.0 sucks balls,. the OHV is pretty decent. ill still take a good ole HO 5 liter any day,. ive had both in different vehicles and theres no way a 4 liter has more torque, especially when you can add a few cheap things to a 5.0 and even make it better. my 331 gets mine around quite nicely actually
