Why a v8

well to be on topic...it depends on what stock 4.0 and what stock 5.0 you are comparing. a pushrod 4.0 sucks balls,. the OHV is pretty decent. ill still take a good ole HO 5 liter any day,. ive had both in different vehicles and theres no way a 4 liter has more torque, especially when you can add a few cheap things to a 5.0 and even make it better. my 331 gets mine around quite nicely actually

isn't a push rod 4.0L a OHV motor ;missingteeth;

ahh...wrote that wrong. i meant over head cam

well if you dont know what a mustang dyno is,then that explains alot...it doesnt mean its for 'mustangs' if thats what your thinking. and yes it does matter what kind of dyno it is. it matters alot actually. so now i 'know' you dont have over 400 hp. you have been duped by the neat numbers a dyno spits out, as have many others.

if it wasnt a accurate dyno the local track that does NHRA events wouldnt use the dyno on a regular basis, they use the machine on mustang night once a month to categorize the racers, the shop actually is sponsered by the track. so ya.....there aint much more to say but its time for me to:3gears: on this thread

The OHC 4.0 is pretty spunky, my parents have one in their 2002 Explorer with 3.73's and it will rip right along.

yeah ive got one in a 97...it gets down for a 4 liter...and hughes, believe me , all dynos are said to be accurate, and they might be. BUT different ones are inflated and corrected. for example, a superflow,dynojet,and a mustang dyno are all top name dynos, but i bet you get a pretty decent difference on each one

so...youre telling me that according to you and the sort of power that "should" be getting that this dyno is inflated by 127whp......according to your statement that i should only be making 240whp

i can see being off 5 or 10 in either direction, but what ur saying is just not in the realm of possibility, so, the dyno may have been inflated by lets say 10hp, so that means i have 337whp instead of 347whp, there is no way for a dyno to be off enough not to give it a realitivly accurate response

no, id say you might be around 280-290 'possibly but i doubt it

ur seriously implying that the dyno i used has to be off by 57-67, at the least??

If it is that kind of borders on why even bother with a dyno, god knows what it is going to say. If they all read that different who knows which one is right aside from who spends the most on advertising.

im just to the point of raising :bsflag:on him, i was just lettin himself dig in deeper and deeper

id be pissed if my motor made way less than i thought it did too

I just get a kick out of the 2.3T bashers. They're always all talk until their twin turbo 5.0 gets beat by a 4 cylinder with only 1 turbo, lol.

The funny thing is the stock 2.3 block will take more power than a stock 5.0 block.

is this happening??;missingteeth;

i for one wonder this same question.

and i also have to say my 302 from 1400 up makes more power then any stock 4.0 that has been on the dyno we set my last motor up with.. buuuuuut...

my transmission handles it in a very wasteful way. i run 220's hp peak at the wheels 280s tq peak. thats full gt 40 with 9.5 compression 24# and 70mm on 87 oct 12+ degrees base.. in its current form its a bit less.

so thats the stock offering in crate form a guy can find these days, compare that to a crate 4.0.....you do it right and you can get one under 3 grand.

for a box motor you cant bitch cause it will be extremely reliable. but the 4.0 is also equally reliable and for non mud racing use is an excellent choice, the heat issues comparativly are non existant.

personally i dislike anything other then v8 sound, but a nice quiet 4.0 is just simply perfect in a sub 5 k machine for trail work. two t cases and a manual trans and deep 5xx gears into 60's with 40-42 inch tires are just perfect from what i have seen and experienced....

i know i wouldnt swap a good running 4.0 for a wheezer 5.0 in a trail rig. no way. once the 4 leaker popped i would. but hell may freeze over before that happens.:dunno:

but you have to remember one thing with this swap the 4.0 to 5.0 issue... most "plan" to upgrade the wheezer 5.0 as funds allow.

we all know swapping in a non ho 80's 5.0 cause you could not find a decent running 5.0 ho setup with low miles.... without at least stroking it, is retarded when it is a 4x4 aplication.

most guys are always set to rebuild a base block...if it is a 4x4 aplication, i suggest always running a quality stroker. money well spent. even with fresh stock e7 heads and a regular ho intakes and 70 mm setup with 19# injectors the difference in usability is titanic. though you will want 24# injectors most of the time. but i am one for cost effective...and doing that for under 2 grand is tough, and if you already have a strong 4.0 powertrain, its just an investment if your taking your time building it while your wearing out the 4.0.

then again i see it different in another way. whats readily available??? and costs involved????? how do i get the most bang for the buck? you know...pull low cost unit fan to t case from donor and install into your rig???? what to do?? something cost effective in evey point of use..well 4.0's with low miles for one...but most will be cammers. 5.0's been out of use for a few minutes now, so low mile cherries fan to t case just arent falling out of the sky these days...but the behemouth tritons are.

and then you hear from me....shop for a modern gm powertrain...4.8/5.3/6.0-6.2.

at that point you can throw any rbv powertrain into a port o potty:blush:

fawkin 6.0's rock.

sorry, already this far off topic had to do it:dunno:

so in reality, i agree.....for the original stated application, who would swap a stock 5.0 for a solid 4.0????

thats just a piss waste of swamper money right thar....

The rest of the world can't help it if you race lame drivers and/or tuners.
