If I'm not mistaken, the 1350 has 4 planetary gears vs the 1354's 6 gears. I know about the different front outputs as well.

Would a 1350M hold up behind a 4.0/M5OD that isn't used for any serious off road?

I'd rather have a manual T-Case, and I'm not striking much luck in finding a 1354M for sale....

The first few years of 1354s had the 4-planet sets also.

No problem behind a 4.0L (it should survive behind a mildly-built V8 as well).

I would like to have it so I can at most go play in a field, and maybe turn some 32's. I really don't want to build this truck to climb a wall lol. I'm gonna search around some more on TRS, but I'm thinking I might start looking for a 1350M... That would just leave sorting out my driveshaft...

I don't thrash it very hard but my 1350M has done fine behind my 302...

I hope so because that's what I'm planning on..

Thanks for the quick input guys! I've gotta see if it would be more cost effective to mock up a custom front shaft, or keep looking for that ever elusive 1354M...

A front shaft from a 90 to 93 should fit the bill. The 1350 case still came behind 2.9 and 2.3 engines on the 4x4s but they had the D-35. That will give you the shaft length you need.

Also, I know where to find a few 1354M's.

The 1354 came about at the same time the D35 did, you won't find a factory D35 rig with a factory 1350 to my knowledge.

dustin used a single 1350 before doing the doubler and he didn't kill it. i wouldn't worry about it, use what you gotta use.

That. I looked at a '90 BroncoII in the salvage yard. It had a D35 and a 1354M.

Also, my 1350M is the only factory drive train piece left in my BII. It had 280,000 on it in 2005, when I put the V8 in. I'm swapping to a 1354M just cause I have it, and the front drive shaft already, and my 1350 finally was giving my issues this winter. it didn't want to engage 4hi right away. I'd say that's a pretty good run.

I know RSH got hit t-case from a 91 2.3L truck.

The hybrid axle wasn't introduced until later. Even if the donor has a 28 the shaft will work. I know because I am running an Explorer front shaft with my D-28 axle and don't have any problems.
