Why is nobody open to new things.

I am my own warranty :)

except PCs are superior to macs
Your argument here is not valid since PC's and Mac's use the same hardware (motherboards, chipset, video card, RAM, hard drive, etc.). It just so happens that Apple uses the top hardware in all of their machines, even their base units. PC manufactures use the cheap hardware in their cheaper computers. If you want the exact same hardware in a PC that is found in an entry level Mac/Macbook, you will pay roughly the same cost as what it would to buy that PC.

The only difference in a "PC" and a Mac is the operating system. Every Mac and PC comes standard with a 1 year hardware warranty.

Like I said before, I personally know my way around both OP's. I like the useability of my Mac. I like the network features of my Windows based server.

Both have their strong points, both always will.

Where Mac's differ is in hardware is their design. If you have a motherboard go out in a Mac, you pretty much have to buy one very specific to your case. You can't just get one from Tiger Direct and slap it in your box. What it comes with is what you are stuck with.

When Apple sells you their fairly non-upgradeable product, they really don't have to worry about the other vendors components that may be put into their box. Nor do they have to provide support and drivers to run outside vendors hardware on their system. As of late, this may or may not give them a slight advantage with stability, because I think Microsoft has grown immensely in this area. As far as hardware is concerned, a PC based computer is much more dynamic and customizable. This is a HUGE advantage to me.

To me, this would be much like buying a car that is flashy. But I can't put wheels on it. I can't lift it. I can't make it go faster.

These things also validate Topher's comments.

I have to admit I’m one of those people. Macs are just beyond my comprehension and even if I could learn, I would never make the effort.

Incorrect, sir. Mac actually uses the lower end of the hardware. Mac used to have their boards made by foxconn, the same brand Dell used, which also happens to be one of the worst ones around. The key difference is foxconn made proprietary boards to their specifications. Even though an equal board from that crap-house manufacturer would probably only be about 40-50 bucks normally, since they have a proprietary setup on that board you have to go through mac and pay whatever price they name, a similar theme across the board with their products. I believe they've since switched to an equally poor manufacturer.

You can expect similar quality from their rest of their components.

and you are right, Shane, this is where Apple pulls ahead in stability, for the simple fact that they've cut out all the freedom of choice in the system, there's not very much you can do wrong with it. Think of it as communism inside a computer.

PCs gives you tons and tons of freedom in that department, which is their blessing and a curse. Apple actually released a PC version of OSX probably 8 years ago in an attempt to get people to try it and switch. The hardware list for it was the most specific thing I've ever seen, the product fell through because practically nobody had everything on the hardware list and they weren't about to switch components for an OS that didn't offer them anything extra.

i can do anything a pc can.

w/ out any help from windows.

Then you aren't using your machine for much at all, and things you do use it for, such as web browsing and multimedia would be done faster on a windows machine if you have knowledge of keyboard shortcuts

And you don't think it is the same way with the major manufactures of PC's?

Not nearly as much. There are some goof ball systems, but for the most part a PC is undeniably more dynamic.

The point of this whole thread was to let some of us old school PC users that we aren't "open to new things". I think it's very clear that there are plenty of us who have researched and played with both systems. We've all chosen our preference, and because we chose a PC/Windows platform, we are the ones who are "afraid".

If Mac's are what you like, that's great. But I'll take a system that I can upgrade, customize, and make mine any day. This does not make us less open to "new things", and it certainly does not make a Mac user any smarter than us. I'm not saying we are better than you, just that Mac users should really understand that a lot of us have looked into "new things", and have chosen opposite of you. To be quite honest, it was a Mac that I started out on back in 1991 or 92

I'm Shane, and I'm a PC.

EDIT: This is what I started out on below. It had a black and white screen, and used a floppy drive for everything. I remember drilling holes in the 744k floppy disks to make them 1.44mb.

working in PC repair for 3 years as a real job made me hate mac, and yes, i had to use osx, but that wasn't the issue, my main beef was how propietary there systems were..
those slot load CD drives were know for going bad and getting jammed, and they weren't easly obtainable.. We also had a problem with some there desktop products accepting upgrades we installed, they were very picky on memory, even though we used 133mhz non-edo, only one in 10 modules would work with it. another problem we had was installing harddrives, they just had a bad habbit of only reconizing certain harddrives, we found out Hitachi 40-60 GB drives or Maxtors of the same size work, both Maxtor and Hitachi are well know for bad products.. i know this because when i worked there, we were given 20 eMacs, 10 towers plus 20 laptops, wich 1 in 3 were missing keys on the keyboard... installing the os was another pain, we used a 1394 firewire drive with osx cause we knew those slot loaders were prone to failing and sometimes the stupid machine wont find the drive.. ive also replaced capacitors on imacs before, they got garbage caps also.. im glad i dont fix them anymore.. there hardware just sucks, there realy no different as far as components go, they are one step above the el cheapo laptops though..

mac started making keyboard shortcuts a major thing. have you even used a mac?

how am i not using my machine, if i can do anything...

trust me, media plays the same speed on mac or pc :icon_rofl:

what the hell are you smoking :icon_confused:

I can change, upgrade and edit anything a windows computer can. i can overclock in osx, (bet ya didnt know that one!) i can boot from my external HD with no special tools, i can boot windows as easily as mac (though windows takes forever on the same laptop) so i can update my power programer. I could run a win mac program to let mac understand any pc program as well! I get all my stuff for free. mac applications dont use serial numbers. only windows apps converted to mac do. security up dates every three days, viruses, no proper defrag and system storage management setup. windows takes too much ram to run, and is almost twice the size of mac os. They load language packs on your computer even after you select your language, the laptops are made from cheap plastic, they have poor layout for ports, they still use an actual plug that goes it the laptops (prone to breaking).

i think my favorite feature, SL cost $29.00, not 499.99+ tax for windows 7 ultimate.

sounds like the windows people are the ones getting hosed. if you cant afford mac thats one thing, but if thats the case and you havent used a mac for more then a day, dont go on about how much you dislike it.
