Why is nobody open to new things.

I'm sure it plays the same speed, it would look really weird if it was slower or even faster. I mean you can access it faster. As I mentioned before i've owned several Macs and used even more, from the old appleIIe machines that I used to program in 5th grade to the newer macbooks and imacs. They don't have the advanced features of windows

not to be rude, but my pentium 2 plays media at the same speed as my core 2 quad..

:icon_rofl:

actually topher, itunes loads faster on my mac then it does on my windows boot.

I'm sure it does. My point is I can tell the computer to open it faster through the run line and fast typing a lot faster than you can click on it with your mouse. Not every windows user has this ability, but I do. Its just an example of how windows is a better fit for a more skilled user.

i can open cmd prompt and run that too, but they came out with mouses about 30 years ago, and ive been using it ever since!

i also highly doubt you can type a cmd faster them i can clicky.

Ready....set....GO~

Much depends on user skills with both platforms...these machines, remember, have been honed to provide the easiest way for the AVERAGE user...so they can sell them to the masses...

In the old days when computers were still mind boggling even to someone with experience it was very helpful to be able to manipulate the OS with command line and other tricks...not so much today though...

Personally, I would like to see something much more interactive between computers and humans...and I do believe this is the next breakthrough in technology...for the masses...and that will make our modern computers pretty much obsolete...

If you want specifics...I can't give them because I have no idea what property of the human body they could tap into...other than brain waves...as these seem to be something we may be able to control to some extent...

Altered States...wasn't that the movie?

It usually takes at least a second just to find where your cursor is on the screen, right?

Fun fact about keys on a keyboard: They don't move. You never have to look at them before you press them.

Here's some food for thought.

I'm probably much faster now, but I haven't taken a typing speed test since high school 10 years ago, back then I was doing 120 words a minute. So that's 2 words a second, let's assume the average word has 4 letters and a space after it, that works out to 10 keystrokes every second. So I can press 10 keys in the time it takes you just to find your cursor, then factor in another second to find what you want to click, and another second to move your cursor there and click on it. Now we're up to three seconds.

So, I can do

(Windows key) + R
www.therangerstation.com
(Enter key)

That's only 26 keystrokes, or 2.6 seconds. I can type that faster than you can click with your mouse.

Then consider that my most recent command lines gets saved for auto completion.

All I have to do is type out www.the and it gets autocompleted to www.therangerstation.com/forums/usercp.php

So now we're under 10 keystrokes, less than a second, in the blink of an eye I can have my control panel for the forums loaded up and in front of me.

This all goes back to my original point that Apple doesn't actually do anything better, they just tell you they're better and you've apparently bought into it.

Let me take a guess, you're one of those people that thought tabbed browsing was the greatest thing in the world when it came out, right? The many many people that never even knew Windows already had that feature built in since the 9.X version.

Well, apparently my speed hasn't improved as much as I thought, lol.

I used this test, if anybody wants to try it.

carp! I lony got fourty4 words per minuet...

But I think I erase 54 words a minute with the backspace key while typing those 44 words...

Holy piss, 35 words per minute. My problem is that I watch the keyboard while I type. So I spend a lot of time looking up at the screen.

I love keyboard shortcuts. I always set up CTL+ALT+C for calculator, CTL+ALT+W for Word, CTL+ALT+M for Command Prompt, etc.

It gets even better. You can also set up batch files in your system folder to do whatever the hell you want from the run menu, for instance, I have a batch file named winamp. In the batch file I have a command to launch c:\program files\winamp\winamp.exe so all I've gotta do is put winamp into the run menu, bam, blink of an eye my music's in front of me. I've got an album plugin for winamp, want a certain album? Just hit f3 for the album search. Type out the first bit of the name, hit enter and there's your album, use the song skip shortcuts to pick your song. In a matter of seconds, you've got exactly what you want playing and you never even touched a mouse. Isn't windows great :D

Another frequent shortcut I use is ALT+TAB. When you do computer repair on the side, you learn how to maneuver without a mouse pretty quick.

Eff the mouse and what it's going through I say!

That's the one I use the most. :icon_cheers:
