timing question

High resistance in the coil wire is probably the cause you want to get some good low resistance wires around $30 at the part store. You dont have a multimeter to check the wires my guess is you need new wires in the 88 also. The TFI ignition is very high voltage system the wire need to be replaced regularly I do it every other tune up for fuel economy the better the spark the hotter the burn the less fuel you use. Oh yea your engine likes it.

ok ill try to get some new plug wires but it has always ran good with the wires that are on the 2.3l but i got it out of time and put it back in time and nothings wrong with the 88 it runs awesome just gets 13 mpg city because of the 2.9l and the 31 baja claws

and is a good low resistance brand is bosch low resistence and a good brand?

so bad or old wires can throw a red spark to the dizzy?

Ok i put some new plug wires on and still no blue spark at plugs only at the coil if the dizzy was a tooth or two off could that cause a weak spark?

Yes...and no...

You mentioned that you had it rotated all the way...counterclockwise...

What can happen if the rotor is not quite on the peg inside the cap you can get a weak spark...that is why I suggested rotating the dizzy slightly and checking it each time you move it...say 1* or one singe notch...and when you did that you did get it to run...somewhat...

Now, you also mentioned that the dizzy was recently replaced...OK...so, what you may want to try is to remove the cap, note where the rotor is pointed, then remove the distributor...then you need to roll the distributor clockwise about 30* (indicating degrees) CLOCKWISE and then reseat it...if you watch the rotor or top of the dizzy, it should rotate counterclockwise about 10*...that's OK if you started out by rotating it at least 30* clockwise...

What this will do is give you a bit more swing and may actually line things up properly...or, it could throw it out some...so, again, trial and error...

I had to do this with my dizzy a couple of times till I got it right...but it will give you the blue spark if that's where the problem is...hopefully~

ok but where is the rotor button suppose to be lined up?and pointing toward what firewall?and what about the ignition module on the dizzy isent that suppos to be straight?

i got the rotor button pointing at number one on the cap .and red spark to the dizzy but blue at coil any ideas?

Well i think i should just give up on trying to fix this truck.I just dont understand why am not getting a good spark to the dizzy I've replaced the coil the spark plug wires cap rotor button and plugs.I get a blue spark at the coil but not to the dizzy i get a a red to the dizzy and i can't seem to get the ignition timing right on it either.

what else should i try i got the new wires and still same thing should i get a multimeter that reads volts and resistance?

Hypothetically...yes...but when you have to rotate the dizzy all the way in one direction it would appear that it was not put in properly...so I would suggest trying to remove it, roll it back about 30 degrees and try again...

All this really does is adjust the distributor timing...and if your marks are lining up on the crank and aux shafts and the rotor is pointing to the first plug wire (which it won't when you rotate the dizzy)...

The rotor should point approximately straight at the driver side fender and that is where the number one wire should be...when you rotate the cap you are pushing the number one wire either towards the firewall or towards the radiator...

To clarify...the rotor should be pointing roughly at 90* towards the driver side fender...and your number one wire should be in line with it...if not...remove, roll, and replace the dizzy...that should give you better spark if it is not something internally wrong with the dizzy...or some other component...like the ignition module or the coil itself...but getting a volt meter would be a good investment...

ok but i dont understand why i get a blue spark at the coil and red to the dizzy only thing it could be is a bad coil wire or someting at the coil that gives it a blue spark but maybe a weak blue spark thats not strong enough to go through the wireits not the wire so what else?

my number one spark plug wire is pointing toward the firewall and the the number 3 is pointing to the drivers side fenderand my rotor button is porinting toward the fire wall so it will point at number one and the cap only goes on one way so its right and the cap says number one where the number one spark plug wire is and the ignition module is straight the thing on the bottom of the dizzy with a connector. Is this right?or do i need to turn the dizzy so that the igniton module isent straight?
