My sub box

I was looking for a good spot for my 10" sub and decided that where the jack was would be a good spot(my jack/handles are in my tool bag in back). So the box i made is about 15x12x6, and tucks right out of the way so there's still room for two passengers in the back. I attached the top of the plastic jack cover so that if I ever need the extra space, I just turn the knob and the whole thing pulls out. I also stole most of the parts from an old box my friend had given me, so the whole thing cost me pretty much nothing. It even has a cup holder on it, although I would imagine if you put pop in it, all the fiz would be gone pretty quick, haha.

i was thinking of doing the same thing on my '06.. i thought about putting the amp under the drivers or passengers seat..where did you mount yours?

I'd like to know where your amp is too.

Creative idea, I wanted to do the same (mount a sub and amp without affecting storage/passenger capacity). BTW where is your jack and its stuff, under a seat?

the amp is under the passenger seat, and my jack is in a tool bag with a bunch of other tools in my back seat

Is there a back on that box? I don't think I could mount my sub there with only 6" of depth but I still have some measuring to do.

yes, it has a back. The alpine s-series is very shallow i guess, cause it fits fine

That's not very much air space for a 10" subwoofer. I like the idea though.

yeah, it would probably be good for an 8" sub, but a ten is what I had and a box that fit was more important to me than an ideal box

I disagree. It depends on the model and volume capacity that the sub manufacturer requires. It varies from sub to sub, whether it's Alpine, JVC, RF, Pioneer, etc. Granted, most sound better with more box (whether its a close, vented, bandpass), but acoustics get to a limit and performance decreases after a large enough volume. A 150 watt RMS sub does not need the same volume as my 900W RMS Audiobahn 10"...

You've got the Alpine SWS-1043D. 10", 4 ohms, 300watt RMS & 900W peak handeling.

For sealed boxes, you'll need from 0.65 to 1.5 cubic feet of volume. You have 0.625 cubic feet (1.25' x 1' x 0.5')...

My opinion: Your box is close enough. :icon_hornsup:

If you wanted a slightly better base & response, increase the sides by a couple inches (like 2", really). You would still be good with space in the back...

I think your box looks great, and it serves good drink function as well! It's a clean build. Good job!

i was looking at doing this too. looks great. how does it sound? anything you wished you did differently? im planning on building this and using a 10" kicker. would that be ok?

As agpete had said, you could probably go a bit bigger to get more volume, but I'm very happy with it just how it is. I'm not the type of person who likes the bass way up, I love just having the full range of sound in my music. I can turn my sub up to the point where it's too much, so unless you are planning on having raves in the bed of your truck, a 10" in this size box is plenty.

so i imagine that you cut the plastic hump that is under the lock. so if i make the box taller i can get more volume? it looks great i cant wait to make my box. what did you make your box out of?

heres another idea that will work for my situation. im gonna do that conversion from 60/40 to buckets (cut off the middle seat). and my 10" bazooka tube will fit perfectly in the middle. im gonna have the port face the rear. perfect height for an arm rest when shifting, saves space for 2 people to sit in the back, and sounds much better since the port is no longer facing the side of the cab.

what do you guys think? i did this in my old toyota regular cab and it worked perectly.

If your sub box is a little short of the required air space just stuff some polyfill in the box. It will make if it seem like the box is bigger by slowing down the air movement inside the box.
