Hey guys!
I'm looking to turn my 1996 ranger into a DD prerunner that I can have fun in, like the style of, and bomb down some dirt or gravel roads in! (I live in Michigan so that's pretty much all we have.)
I don't need long travel suspension yet so I'm planning on just getting a 4" lift for now.
I want to run 33 x 12.5 x 15's on a 15 x 8 inch rim but with a 6 inch bulge front and rear fiberglass kit from McNeil racing. I don't know what amount of back spacing I'm going to need to run on the wheels to not make it look dumb.
It's a 2.3l so I'm not planning on going fast or anything yet but I hope to one day do the 5.0 explore swap.
Keep in mind that all this will happen over the coarse of 3 or 4 years, probably starting with the 4" lift and 33's and then the fiberglass, then the new suspension (long travel), then the v8 swap.
But back to the wheels, what backspacing should I run for 6" bulge fenders?
I do want to eventually take the truck up to the dunes here in Michigan so before anyone says that I just want to be a prerunner poser (kinda true) I really do plan on having some real fun in it and make it something that I'm not worried about other truck drivers saying I'm not driving a "real truck" and just be in something that I'm proud of and wanting to drive!
I currently just don't like the look of my ranger and it has some rust on the bed on the wheel arches. I think that its just not as aggressive as I want it to be but I love it, the community and whatnot but it needs a new look! (I don't want to "just get a bigger truck like an F-150 if you don't think its aggressive enough" like some will say.)
I'm well aware of the danger to the wheel bearings and how scrub works and whatnot. I might be young but I'm not dumb. (maybe a little bit, but at least I have passion and want to work on stuff and learn!)
ANYWAY! Backspacing! What should I run?
(My truck is basically bone stock right now by the way!)
(1996 Ford Ranger XLT, 2WD, Regular cab, Long bed, 3.75 gears? (not sure but thats what it says on the axle tag), 2.3l 4 cylinder, 5 speed manual transmission!) (Its the Teal color if you really want to know everything!)
