Hello all, new to RS and Rangers. Been browsing alot, lots of great info here.

I just got a '93 single cab 4.0 manual trans (119000 miles) for a work truck. Looks good, but needs some stuff and appears to have had some neglect. Im sure ill be posting alot of questions, but I asure you I always use the search feature before hand.

Anyways...drained and refilled the trans today with Valvoline Maxlife 75,000 mile ATF (dex/merc). Is this fluid ok?? I know Im supposed to use ATF, but after refilling I starting reading conflicting posts regarding fluid choices and wanted to make sure before I drive too far with this new fluid.

Also, using a hand pump i was only able to get in around 2.5 quarts before it started flowing out the fill hole....i thought i should've been able to get more in there?? BTW, less than that came out when I drained it, I think I have a leak at the shift rail plugs.

Thanks for any insight.

I am assuming that you have the 5 speed cause you mentioned the shift rail plugs. The M5OD-R1 does take the ATF so you will be fine. If the shift rail plugs are leakng then the back part of the transmission will be wet with ATF. Just keep an eye on the level and go from there.

Maxlife will work fine. It's supposed to only take about 2.5 quarts. Sounds like you did everything right.
