Apparently not many people want 8' beds any more - for 2024, the only way you can get an 8' bed is with a single cab on the F-150, the extended cab only comes with 6.5' bed now...

Most people don't want to deal with the extra turning radius that a longer wheel base has. Whether we like it or not, most people have a truck as a status symbol and want it to drive like a car or close to it. So, the manufacturers are building to that crowd.

I find a 6.5' bed a nice balance for utility.

My current truck with a crew cab and 6 5' bed is a little long and unwieldy but but I need both the cab and the bed.

Maneuverability plays a role in utility too, if it's a pita to move around it isn't very functional if you deal with tight spaces.

Not to mention a extended cab 8' bed IMO just has odd proportions.

A 6' bed is what I consider a minimum for a useful bed. So, I don't have a problem with that. Manueverability is a thing too.

We have an F250 Supercrew with an 8' bed now and while nice in some ways, it is like navigating a barge. So I can see why people don't want such a long truck. What we really need is one of the crew cab Colorados that is on base but vehicle maintenance refuses to give us one. We either get a regular cab small truck or a Supercrew F250. The F250 fits our needs better. So we don't complain.

I really haven't paid much attention to the newer trucks with the Supercab and a regular bed to comment on the appearance. Older ones look just fine to me.

I like the 6.5' bed for daily driver duty. Plenty of useful space to carry large or bulky piles of stuff. 1/2 ton or mid size.

For a dedicated work truck, 3/4t 8' bed minimum. When you go from a 6' bed to an 8' bed don't realize how much easier it makes everything.


For either instance I prefer the single cab, can fit everything I need behind the seat. Any extra space is just going to gradually get filled with junk I can't get at or can't find. Rather have the shorter wheel base and loose the useless space.

Wife has a forester so if I need to go some place with more then one other person I can take that.

The only time i ever had an issue where it seemed like too much was in a detroit parking garage. So i could see in a urban jungle enviroment it could be hard.

But its awful nice hauling 2 round bales, loads of firewood, etc etc.

In all seriousness though...i notice very few people even use the bed on their truck. Nowadays it seems everyone just uses their truck as sedan with a bed...and instead of actually hauling shit they just throw a trailer behind it.

Ive seen countless 1/2 ton crews, shortboxes, doing "truck stuff"...but only with a trailer attached.

I dont understand it.

Heavy crap like firewood is easier to load in a low slung trailer and usually does double duty. I can sneak it around in trees better with a tractor and then throw it on the truck to go somewhere.

Brush I load both the truck and a trailer because why drag it out, the trailer holds like 5+ pickup loads of brush so I get 6+ pickup loads per trip.

I think the longbox supercabs look good.

And yes two....i usually get 4x4 bales, shut the tailgate and haul ass.

Firewood....i use a trailer too....but i also load the truck bed...

Pick one.

Round bales are usually like 5-6' diameter and similar in length. Not these little "fun size" ones you pack around.

Secondly, around here 4x4 or 4x5 is pretty standard. Rarely you find bigger then that for sale.

I used to do square bales but round is so much eaiser to deal with...alot less labor intensive.
