water maybe

First of all make sure you are getting power to the motor when you hit the switch. You can check this by putting a volt meter
on the power wire and checking for 12-14 volts when you hit the switch. If you have power to the motor then the problem is in the motor or the gearbox. Check for moisture in the motor by taking the two bolts that hold the motor on out and checking inside the motor case. If there is any moisture blow the field coils out with compressed air because the insulation will hold water and cause the motor to short.

Just out of curiosity, what brand of winch is it?

It was a cheapo 100$ harbor freight winch. I was messing with it last night and it started working again. Must of just been a loose wire or something stupid. Thanks
