wanting to put a transmission and transfer case into my 84 ranger 4x4. it was mated to 5.0 . i currently have a 1979 302 with a c-4 with the advance adapter shaft built into it. also 1350 transfer case. this combo came out of a 1996 explorer 4x4. was wondering if it would work and bolt right in. not concerned with the electronics as i am going to shift it manually. not sure but i think the 5.0 only option was a 4r70w tranny. which is what i want. i am sorrry that i did not explain myself better. i am running a 302 and c-4 currently, which basicly did bolt in. was wondering about using the 4r70w and the bw 4404 transfer case. has anybody ever bolted it in. just wanting to know how it fit, was it a bitch or very little work. also is the 1354 capapable of matching up without the aa shaft? can a person change something internally in transfer case to adapt to tranny instead of changing the tranny? was also contemplating using everything as it was on the explorer.

C4 is vacuum shift, the only electronics is for the NSS. Just run a vacuum line to the engine and it will shift itself.

Hard to tell what came with what, because they didn't put either 1979 302's, AA adaptors or 1350 t-cases in '96 Explorers. If that is truely the case, it is somebody's project and all bets are off what it should have.

A V8 1996 Explorer will have a 1996 EFI 5.0, 4R70W, and some goofy AWD t-case that I have never bothered to memorize.

A V6 will have the 1354 t-case that replaced the 1350 in the very begining of the '90's.

I used foxbody converable mounts to mount my 302, dual sump foxbody oil pan and tweaked the t-case crossmember to fit.

Nothing really bolted in but physically putting the engine wasn't the hard part, it was meshing the truck to work with said powertrain. Driveshafts, shifters, power to the right places, exhaust, heaterbox, cooling system... all around making things work together that were never meant to work together.
