are these years basically a motor swap or do i have to get parts off of donor veh. to make motor work in the '94? basically what we're looking for is what is the newest low mile motor we can ge that will bolt in as a straight swap

we will do some looking around. i was checking
Car-parts.com and it seem that there are lots of good donor motors. we just want to get one that will bolt in with min. problems.

thankyou for the info.

If you want minimal problems and/or swapping, get a 4.0L from a '93 or '94. Those, I believe are identical.

'95 and newer OHV 4.0L's had a plastic intake plenum, EGR, some different sensors and other slight variations.

With any '93-'94 donor motor, you should be able to drop right in and hook everything up exactly how the old one was.

Ok so I am doing a 93 ranger 4.0 to a 96 1/2 explorer 4.0. totally different wiring for the sensors, intake plenum, oil pan and exhaust manifolds. Just pull the used donor parts and swap them out. Really doesn't take any more time.. Exact same block, with odd and end changes.
Now I just need to get some new rod and main bearings, timing set, oil pump, water pump and some gaskets and i'll have this 93 truck on the road again.
