I got this annoying problem that ive had for a while now and I want to get it taken care of, its a loud high pitched squealing noise coming from the front drivers side, at first I thought it was my brakes but the pads and routers are only a couple months old. Also some times when I come to a complete stop the front drivers side wheel sakes almost like the ABS is going off. Im not sure what to do now any suggestions?

Take that side apart. sounds like the spindle nuts have come loose and the bearings are no longer held tight, causing the rotor and ABS tone ring to rub on the caliper hanger.

2000 ranger has wheel hub assemblies, not serviceable bearings like the 97 and down trucks.

The most common thing I have seen that makes a high pitched squeal on the 98 and up trucks is the dust seal on the outer c/v joint squealing against the back of the steering knuckle. I'd check for wheel bearing play too, they can cause false ABS activation if they get loose.

I have noticed that I can only hear the noise driving 30 mph and under, and if I step on the breaks the noise goes away momentarily

Sounds like a dry wheel bearing to me.
Same symptoms were happening to my 96, I just assumed it was my brakes. Turns out it was the wheel bearing. It was happening for so long that eventually the hub got ripped off the steering knuckle.

So I did some investigating today wheels are solid, then I looked in to the c/v joints. I'm not sure what to look for I don't know much about this, everything seemed to look ok but I did notice that this had some play on the drivers side but not the passenger side, does that mean anything?

are you talking about the boot or the shaft? the boot will move. the shaft should have a little play. i had the same problem before i switched to live axles. inside the hud assy. there is another bearing in there where the spindle on the cv joints gose through to the locking hubs. that bearing was wearing out. the only thing you can do is take it apart and grease it or replace the wheel bearing.

its possible. i would take locking hub off and spray a little spray grease in there to lube the spindle retainer snap ring and see if it stops

My 2WD 2000 Ranger has serviceable bearings. Maybe the 4WD has the sealed bearing?
