whats everyones average MPG?

So it seems like my truck gets terrible gas mileage for what it is. Its a 1999 ext cab 3.0 auto trans 2wd. I get around 14-16 mpg depending on how I drive and if I have my trailer. Seems like bad gas mileage for what it is. I do have a ladder rack that sticks out a little and a bull guard. I drive mostly on the highway for 90 percent of my commute throughout the week. So I'm just wondering what everyone else's average gas mileage. I used to have a 2.3 manual trans it that thing got mid twenties all the time no matter how I drove.

I usually get in the low 20's mpg and do mostly city driving with my 2008 Ranger extended cab 2wd 4 cylinder with the 5 speed with a soft tonneau cover over the bed. I have been has high has 27 mpg when I used a tank of gas and most of that fill up was interstate driving.

Currently in the neighborhood of 18.5mpg

Was about 23 mpg when I bought it in stock form.

Aerodynamics and gearing play the biggest roles in highway fuel economy. The brush guard and ladder rack are definitely hurting you're aerodynamics, and they're also adding unnecessary weight. Ditch the ladder rack if you can, and lose the brush guard for sure. The front of your truck is the most important part aerodynamically, and having a bRush guard there kills the aerodynamics of the entire truck. Around here, they're known as "damage multipliers" too because if you hit something, they're guaranteed to increase the damage to the front of your truck vs not having one there.

An extended cab, 3.0 with auto trans will never be very fuel efficient though. The auto trans robs power from the engine and the extended cab adds quite a bit of weight. I'd say high teens might be the most you should expect.

I squeezed 21mpg out of the Rat on the way to Toronto. Unknown what current MPG is. It is working around the yard hauling stuff, locked in low range.

!992 extended cab with 5.0, GT-40p heads, explorer intake, M5OD 5 speed, 3.73 gears with Trac-lock gets 14-16 with mostly 85 mile round trips to a ranch to hunt @ 70 mph. At 65mph it occasionally gets 17 if I resist crushing the little pedal.

I agree the bull guard and the ladder rack do hurt my gas mileage but if I can only gain 1-2 mpg if I ditch those items then its not worth it for me. I just feel like a 2wd v6 should be able to get 18-20 all day but that has never been the case. Truck runs good and I think it still has the original plugs and wires. I put a cone filter in place of the flat air filters, fixed the exhaust leak on it, have normal skinny tires on it, don't always drive like Mario Andretti but sometimes when I see a gravel road or good ole donut alley (BIG gravel intersection known for donuts, its probably a gravel area about 100'-160' around, its awesome). But the ladder rack is staying on for now, i like the option for larger items with the ladder rack. The bull guard i may remove, i like the way it looks.
