just had this trans rebuilt a little over a year ago... and here we go again :annoyed: On both occasions i lost all forward gears, except last time there was some pretty heavy slipping and grinding before it went out.. this time around it started to not want to engage in a forward gear unless you revved the engine... I was going to change the filter and fluid on my days off from work , but the last time i got in it , it just wouldnt go anymore. I did change the filter and still nothing.. Somebody PLEASE tell me that it could be something simple causing this.... and that i don't have to rebuild again.:bawling: I have read some about a electronic pressure control solenoid .. could it be something like that? Oh and its a 4r44e in a 2002 4x4 3.0 btw..

with so much trouble, would you consider a swap to a manual tranny? just a thought.
well i'm considering a swap to another vehicle actually , ha , and just cutting my loses on the damn thing.. but yes , i have looked into a manual swap.. i just don't think I have the motivation left in me to pull that one off.. thanks though,

I dont know..You changed the filter so I guess low fluid wouldn't be an issue..

What kind of rebuild was done? If it was a "soft" rebuild, then that's probably whats wrong. More needed to be done.

IMHO, I wouldn't sell it. I would get a brand new trans put in or put one in myself. It's a lot better than buying a used car that you know nothing about.

well they told me all the clutches were burned up in it.... and for 1300 dollars it better have been a full rebuild!.. anyways i'm inclined to agree with you ... i think i'll just try to find a good junkyard piece and throw in there and see what she does...

I would look strongly at all the electronic sensors on the trans and maybe the shift solenoids if there are some in the pan. One main sensor is called the MLP at the Ford dealership where I worked in parts. That is the Manual Lever Position switch. It will look like the old neutral start/back up light switch. If you plan on rebuilding the auto setup. Don't re-use any of the electronics on it.... Those can't be more than 200- at rockauto.com. Even the OD switch in the steering column likes to crap out. The MLP is a little touchy to adjust. You have to make sure the neurtal line marks on thse switch are set with the trans in neutral.

This. Most shops seem to just replace what they see is wrong. But with the Bordeaux family of transmissions, the technical service bulletins should be referenced and appropriate fixes shall be completed, and common wear parts should also be replaced as well, to prevent your case from happening. I'd say at most shops, a complete rebuild would total closer to $2K, instead of $1300.
