I was going to start my ranger last week end and as I filled the radiator with fluid I got a major leak between the time chain cover and the water pump. I have an engine out of a crown vic 1986. When I bought the engine it had a cracked timing chain cover. In my travals I ran across a new cover marked OEM replacment at a junk year/parts dealer (now out of business). Well the water ports in the cover are 90 dgrs to the water pump ports and there is about an 1/8th innch gap on the driver side port:sad:. I can't find any parts dealers that recognize the cover or can tell me what pump fit the ports:shok:. A very long frustrating day talking to dis interested counter folks. Any body here have any clues? Just another in a long learning series:icon_confused:...LOL

timing chain covers.

RTCF 351RF looks like the Timing chain cover I have. Note the differance in ports from the other timing chain covers. I am hoping I don't have to change timing chain covers. Any clues how to proceed? Thanks Teddy:icon_cheers:

I am thinking about buying a reverse rotation water pump and puting in a regular rotation impellar. It would drive who ever tries to fix it crazy a few years down the road!:icon_twisted:

Should be a cast in part number like RF-787E-6059-AA above the crank and upside down. When dealing with the early ones, even a couple more differences in where the timing pointer is located.

Looking at the exits from the cover, looks like all but the RTCF-351RF are the standard rotation. All the outlets point the flow in a CCW direction execp for that one. Is that correct?

If you still had your old one, I could weld up that crack for cost of shipping, depending where the crack is.

Thank you for the offer. I can run the drive belt under the water pump pulley instead of over it and reverse the flow. You can get reverse pumps off of the internet at a reasonable price. Doing it this way will be easier and cheaper than pulling the engine to change timing chain covers. I am using electric fans to I don't have to worry about fan rotation. Teddyzee is just excellent and I really do owe him!:icon_cheers:

That's the name of the game. You'll never get it perfect on the first try, BUT you will have much more knowledge about not just your vehicle, but the donor vehicle too.

Crazy how that works........

water pump head ache

Went to the junk yard today and got a serpintine pulley and got it monuted to my standard water pump. It catches the drive belt in the driver side lower quadrant. Since all I am running is the water pump I hope this is adquate. Just hope the shaft for the reverse flow pump is in about the same positon. I may need to figure out how to put a belt tensioner in if the pump slips on the pulley. :icon_thumby:

If it's anny counselation f150s used reverse rotation w/p. I used the f150 FEAD in my 86, just about forgot to change the cover when I stuck the crown vic engine in. Good luck, hope it works out!:icon_thumby:
