Hello everyone,

My 89 2.9 Ranger is leaking water from appears to be a hose connecting to the heater core. It only leaks when the truck has just shot off. I can see a little grommet/nipple from the passenger side wheel well and it drips ever so slightly.

does anyone know if that has a plug?

I recently did a radiator flush/fill and I think all the pressure may have popped off the cap if it had one.

any thoughts?

thanks fellas!

Is it clear liquid or have some sort of color? If you have been running your A/C or Defrost when you notice it then it is most likely just water from the evaporator. All other fluids will have a color to them and will be an easy indicator of what system to look at. Lay down a white paper plate under the leak and allow some of the liquid to collect, this will make it easier to identify the color if any. I assume you didn't fill your cooling system with straight water so that should either be green or orange.

there's generally a drain hose from the heater core, right after shutting off the cooling system will expand a little before it contracts and sucks in the coolant from the overflow tank, your heater core is probably the path of least resistance

Last time I had a little dribble from an area like that it was a shot heater core (not hard to swap unless the previous owner used a shipload of RTV on things). I also managed to pop both heads when that happened too from overheating due to coolant loss.

turns out to be a bad heater core. I had the carpet soaking up all the antifreeze. guess when i did the coolant flush/fill - it finally shot the heater core.

$18 bucks got me a new one.
