How expensive was it? I have no idea and I'm actually kinda scared to find out...
I got it out of an ambulance in the junkyard.

allan, i too may be interested in a dual battery setup. going by what you said, something like this http://www.dan-marc.com/34-51140.html would be suitable?

also, any insight into doing this in a 2nd gen ranger? can i use a 93-94 driver side tray?

Sounds like thats a bit more than what you need, but would more than do the trick, for sure.

And yeah, at this point I guess I am looking for advice on mounting a 2nd battery under the hood of an '89 B2.

The problem in using a Gen3 battery tray in a Gen2 is that it goes were thecooland/washer reservoir is...

On a 1993 the reasevoir is relocated to wrap around the air box, but on a gen two that's
where the underhood load center is installed.

Is there an easy alternative for putting a 2nd battery under the hood, or does it require some amount of custom fab work? Any suggestions on good locations that minimize the overall amount of work required?

My isolator is made by Quick Cable, its a schottky 200 amp.
Its mounted under the hood with 2/0 cable ran to the main battery for the cab and 6 ga ran to the aux battery for charging.
I also have the main and aux batteries connected by 1/0 with a switch behind the gas door (fuel cell in the bed) to parallel the 2 if needed so I can jump one battery to another for more juice.

The Powerstrokes run two ground cables, one to the block, one to the frame. Then they run two positive cables, one from the positive side of one battery to the starter, the other connects the positives of both batteries.

All four are 0 gauge.

The issue with this setup is that if either of them needs replaced for any reason you HAVE to do both or things break.
