thinkin about a 302 conversion

im thinking about stuffing a 302 from an f-150 into my 84 ranger 4x4, i was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on it or has actually done a similar conversion? the biggest thing i dont know about is the smog situation... and im in california so im assuming its very strict laws about smog, thanks for any help

The tech section here is your best bet for the info you need. Lots of good reading.
Several of us have done the 302 conversion in different ways. Some do the Explorer engine swap and others, like me, have done the older carbed engine swap. If you have a carb now, might be your best bet to stay carb.

Over here your truck would be considered vintage, and would not need emissions testing. How is it in cali?

In cali. you need to put and engine in your truck either the same year or newer in it. Still has to pass emissions though.

its an injected 302 out of a 90 F-150, i pulled out all the smog stuff so thats fine, and im not worried about clearance or anything, and i never used the tech library untill now and wow thats got all kinds of stuff! thanks for your help, i think ill be ready to get at it in the near future

Glad to see you're using the tech library. When I did my swap years ago, it was extremely helpful.
