My credo
If you can't go through it or around it, then go over it.
This is the regulator for my replacement Royal Enfield. It needs to be relocated to where it’s in an airstream so I am going to mount it to the bottom of the yoke over the front mud guard.

what I need to know is if I can use thermal paste and a backing plate to cover up the back

Is there supposed to a picture here? I don't see anything.

At any rate, I've never seen a regulator/rectifier that need anything other than a solid and maybe conductive mount.
