Yeah, I'm looking for one right now, and trying to get a Yugo SKS again as well. I like the SKS and the Mosin platforms. The last ammo I had for my SKS was cheap but it was brass cased, can't remember what brand now but it did come from Cabelas, but that was long before the last gun scare.

I have to save money as I go, so it takes me a few months to be able to get what I want, but the ol' bronco 2 is first on my to-do list right now so the gun buying is on the back burner for now.

WHY DO I KEEP BUYING DODGES?!?!?
You guys ever go on armslist? I was perusing that and saw people in MN asking 600-750 for a Tantal sporter I bought new for less than $400 a year or so ago. It can give an idea on whats out there and what people want for it. Saw a few Mosins for about $100-$150 still, so that's good. It's funny that in my area at least, owning old commie guns has made it easier for me to find ammo during this shortage, as 9mm, .223, .45ACP, and 5.56 have been consistently empty on the shelf. The local shops always have MAK on hand for about $15/box, and Tokarev was everywhere in those little 16rd blue wrappers for maybe $4 for the longest time, or else in the 70rd box. The 7.62x54R has been stupid easy to find - milsurp or new commercial - to the point Scheels has Winchester brass/boxer 7.62x54R, but I get a blank stare when I ask about 8mm Mauser... It was then I wondered if I should have kept the Mosin and sold the Mauser :dunno:

Hmm, I'll try armslist as well, gunbroker is a huge rip-off on quite a few guns. Like poor looking Mosins listed for $400 WTF.

I think what was being gotten at was to NOT try armslist. It's crazy. I looked the other day here and found people wanting $300 for Hi-Points. They're only $125-$165 or so brand new.

I've never bought anything off armslist, but I look to see what people in my area are asking for things. Like someone else mentioned I think, Gunbroker ands such are pretty high as well, but at least armslist is generally private party, so you don't have to worry about FFL transfer fees or shipping if you meet the person. Some people may have quirks though. Saw someone selling a Chinese M53(?) Mosin M44 clone and though his price wasn't bad, he insisted on the buyer having a permit to purchase, while stating "I know it's not required but I require it." MN only requires a permit to purchase for "acquir[ing] handguns [and "assault weapons"] from federal firearms dealers." It's stated right on the permit - I just looked at mine.

I have heard going across state lines can get funny that way though.

And if the guy that buys it does something wrong with it and the papertrail comes back to the seller it is handier to have the info from the guy's permit than to try to convice the autorities that you sold it to some randam guy and that the seller actually sold it and didn't throw it in the river...

There are also laws on the books about selling to someone to someone unfit (not allowed) to own a gun too. Requiring a permit would be a good way to weed out any unpleasant types for the seller. I am sure you could fake them but it would show the authorities that he did really try to be on the up and up when he sold his gun.

The chinese M44 is called the Type 53 I think, I saw one at the gun show but they wanted $200 for it. If it was Russian than I would have bought it.

$200 isn't too bad considering the prices you'll find on a lot of the gun auction websites, and I can't believe the people bidding on that stuff, obviously they have no clue they are seriously paying too much.

For the carbine version I think $200 is worth it, but for the regular 91/30 I don't think it is. $150 is about the max you should pay for one, after that they kinda lose the value in it. It is still one hell of a rifle for what it costs.

Are there any surplus pistols about in-line with the price of the 91-30s?

I've seen CZ-82's (9x18MAK), vz. 50's and vz. 70's (.32ACP) all for under $200. There's also the old Nagant revolvers I've seen numerous ads for around $100.

The only deal with those Nagant Revolvers is that ammo is expensive, 7.62x38mmR.

Soviet Tokarev TT33 are usually under $200 up here.
7.62x25mm surplus is cheap, and seems plentiful.
