I have a '97 Ford Ranger. The speedometer/odometer doesn't work at times. It is electrically controlled and the speedo/odometer are both mechanical.
I replaced the sensor near the clutch/transfer case housings thinking the sensor could have been bad but the problem has started again. Wiring harness beneath seems o.k. I'm thinking problem could be somewhere in dashboard, possibly whatever device there is that converts signal from sensor to turn mechanical speedo/odometer.
