I have an 89 4x4 ranger and I'm having a little trouble with the hubs. I know that the hub is not engaging. Is there any way I can take the hub apart and lock it in maybe permanently keep in mind this is just and old truck for playing in the mud. any input would be great thanks.

Locking them in permanently might not be much different than actually fixing them... They're pretty simple inside.

Probably easier option might be just grab another hub from a junkyard and swap that on (chances are it's only one hub that's not working, so try to determine which side isn't engaging).

Also check that the axle c-clips, thrust washers, & bearings are present on the end of the axle stubs. Them missing will allow the axle to "walk" inward and lose connection with the hub.
