Can someone tell me exactly where I hook up the code reader scanner to my 98 Ranger, I have looked under the dash on both sides and in the engine compartment. I am missing it.
Thanks

Ok I found it behind a little snap out pannel under the stering wheel, but now I hook it up and turn the key on, it says its connected but says cannot read data, please make sure connection is made between scanner and truck. but yet it shows on the screen it connected. not sure whats up.

Hey you have to turn your truck on. Dont start it, just turn the key to the run position. Then it should work.

yeah I know, I said that in my post, but I went and checked it on my ford F-150 to try and see if it might be the scanner and it worked on it. Then I tried my ranger again and it says the same. Something is not letting it relay info to the scanner. Any more suggestions.

Check to see if there is power at the ALDL connector with a DMM. I have encountered the same thing on a Jimmy and the fuse that controlled the lighter was blown (that's where the ALDL gets its power on that vehicle). I believe you need to probe pin 1 and 16 to check for power.
