Either way I end up going, the spare tire now sits up too high. If I keep the tent low (back flip) I'd like the tire lower so its not a big wind sail. And if I do mount the tent high (side flip) the tire's in the way.

So I start by cutting off the tire mount from the swing arm.

I ended up cutting off a bit too much, so I had to add a bigger diameter tube to get an extra 1/2 inch.

The top of the tire is now about the hight of the 5lb propane tank.

go to all of craigslist and search, I found one in Scranton for an f-series for $80. I've seen them pretty cheap on other small truck sites too. Be brave, go join a tacoma forum or a frontier forum and troll their classifieds

Its also how you search too. Some times people only post "RTT", "roof tent" or the brands like "eezi-awn" Do some digging and find other ways to search like different spellings and generally retarded people not posting a good ad. I was searching for a few months before I found the one I have. It only came up under some random search I did. Don't remember what it was, but the ad wasn't correct.

that's usually the best way to get a deal, if their ad stinks nobody calls them so you can talk them down

Well it's sad to see the truck won't turn out as what it was going to be. But that's defiantly a great looking rig!!

Yeah, it kinda sucks. I'm taking this truck back to simple and light, then start using it more. It spends far more time in the shop than on the road. Once I've gotten most of it done I'm going to get rolling on one of my other projects. I have the urge to build something crazy. I've been wanting to build my own race truck or build something like the hilux in district 9, but thats one of those up in the air things.
