When coming to a complete stop with my brakes I can hear this sound and it's consistent with my speed. This doesn't happen when slowing down in reverse, or when I slow down while in neutral so I believe I've ruled out the brakes.

Important notes: I pulled the drive shaft off to replace the axle housing/drive shaft boot, but didn't mark the position of the shaft first so it's most likely not on there the way it came off.

I'm thinking it's either the shaft not being on there right, or the drive shaft needs lube on the splines...

Any thoughts?

My credo
A properly suspensioned Ranger can be safely airborne for up to 4 seconds at a time! =:O
I think you're on the right track. I've had the driveshaft "clunk" (slack) for a while, and now I can hear (w/ stereo off) what you're describing when coasting down to low speeds, i.e. it's wheel-RPM related, sounds kinda like a bad tire...

... I've now got a needle attachment for my grease gun... now to figure out what KIND of grease FoMoCo specs for this...

UPDATE:>>>>>>>>>>>> FOUND da grease: http://amzn.com/B000NU77DA

GREAT REVIEWS, many from Ranger owners...
