So I want to drop a new rear end unto my truck, just not sure which would be best for racing. I've got a 3.73 8.8" open on it right now. If at all possible I'd like to get one thats a few inches wider than the one on it now. That way its got better traction when grip an'rippin. I'm down for a brand new dana, camburgs 3.5 9", or rippin off a 9" from an explorer and just having it rebuilt.

Explorers are 8.8's, you must be thinkin of a Bronco. 9" rearends haven't been in anything since the late 80's or early 90's.

What kinda racin are you doin or lookin to do?

An Explorer would have a 31 spline 8.8 vs the 28 spline in your '93 so just because they both have 8.8's not all 8.8's are equal. The stock 31 spline is considered a tad stronger than the strongest stock 9". Of course you can whoop both up more and build up the 9" more than the 8.8 depending on how far you want to go. The 9.75 is a much heavier version of the 8.8 and can be found in 97-10 5.4 F-150's. No idea who gets what with the 5.0's and Ecoboosts 11+. Of course the same as the Bronco stuff it will change your wheel bolt pattern...

And '95+ Explorers have disc brakes from the factory.

i recommend looking into changing out your ring and pinion gears, it could actually be cheaper and just as affective as putting in a whole other rear end. and you don't have to worry about any fab. work either.
