doin a dana 44/ 9 in swap with 10 in lift and 3 in body on 38.5 tsls, in my 90 ranger will post pix as soon as i start.

I think it is, I'm honestly not even sure if anyone makes a 5.45 gear. I just picked a number that would be a ridiculously low ratio.

It's actually the 8.8 that will limit your low gear ratios, the dana axles go quite low for aftermarket gears. I looking at buying the 5.38/5.42 combo for my d44/9" combo.

how will that work i thought gear ratios had to be the same? or is it too small of a difference to matter

He might get away with that gearing, especially if it's a trail toy, which I'm sure it is with that lift.
