I don't know much about audio systems and am sure this is a very basic newb question. But I broke my antenna off my truck and need to put a new one. What is the easiest way to do this? I put it in the garage to work on it and never gave the antenna a thought....and it snapped. Any tips would be great. Thanks.

Sorry...should have been more specific. It broke off inside...so the entire thing needs to get replaced. Not just the rod.

what do you mean by "inside" the wire inside the dash or the threads inside the mounting plate???? this could be a big difference in how long it takes.

It broke off at the mounting on the fender. There is nothing I can grab. The treaded screw part snapped off, but down in the actually hole. I was hoping not to replace the entire antenna system (front stereo out), but I can't figure out how to get the broken antenna piece out so I can screw in a new antenna.

Still tough to visualize exactly what happened, but you might have to pull the radio and unhook the antenna from the back of it, and fish the whole wire out through the dash.....

Unfortunately that is what I think I am looking at. The screw part of the antenna is what cracked off, but it is down inside the hole. I can't get pliers or anything in the hole. This rots. I didn't want to have to fish a new antenna.

ehh, its not as hard as it seems. its about 10 minutes worth of work. go to aid auto or autozone and look on the racks on pick one out. its actually a simple job.

seems like its just the antenna and the mount that were damaged. sounds like the hard part would be fishing out the antenna wire from the inner fender.

ever heard of an easy out?? not being a smart@ss but if you can get a drill bit into the part thats left in there you can get it out with one. takes about 5 min 10 if your over careful and then just get you a new antenna

Thanks for the thought. It is a pretty small hole and pretty deep where it broke off. Do they make smaller and longer EZ outs? I have never seen one, but someone mentioned that also. Where would I get one? Auto parts store or like Home Depot?

If you can get a small LEFT HAND drill bit (these are made specifically for drilling broken bolts) just drilling into it may get it out without ever using the EZ-out
