so much clutch was giving out in my truck so last weekend I drove to my buddies house he has pneumatic tools to set off to replace it

we got everything off:icon_thumby:not gonna say no problem cuz he had some lol
rear drive shaft
transfer case
front drive shaft
cross member
exhaust
tranny
old clutch
pilot bearing
pressure plate
throw out bearing

wasn't to easy but took us a couple of days of off and on work
but here's the problem

ok so we put everything back on
clutch is lined up shafts are back on
everything seems to be in place then when I tried to start it, it just clicked once then my ground wire on my battery got extremely hot
so I checked the whole ground wire seemed fine but I got a new one and replaced it

then I tried again same thing but the wire didn't get hot but still clicked so I checked my positive wire also seemed fine I didn't replace it but I trimmed the wire back some to get better connection

same thing so then we thought it was the starter to off we went to auto zone bought it slapped it on there still clicks but know it clicks like a dead battery
I know for a fact my battery is good and charged I even had it on a battery charger as we tried to start it

and for some reason the motor doesn't wanna crank over we tried to hand crank it just to see if it did(I drove it to his house last week ran fine besides the clutch)wont budge!

so..........what we think Is that something is keeping the motor from turning
which is weird cuz we didn't open the engine up
so it might be maybe is something is not letting the flywheel turn hints the reason my motor wont turn but idk:dunno:

what do u guys think...:icon_confused:....? I knew I might have to do it all over again:bawling:

If you put the transmission into neutral and try to push the truck, can you move it?

Did you check the starter solenoid? Fords are notorious for these failing at the worst possible times. Had to replace mine recently because it was doing the same thing. finally got tired of beating it with a wrench to break it loose. They have a copper disk inside that will get burn spots over time that will cause a bad connection. You can test it by jumping the small terminal from the ignition switch to the large terminal that goes to the starter with a screwdriver. if it turns over then it's the starter solenoid. Not for sure that's your problem but its worth checking

My credo
it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
jump the two big posts nut to nut like he said or go right to the starter to eliminate a wire issue.

i assume the engine turns over by hand? and the clutch visibly releases?

otherwise you put something in a bind during reassembly...and a bad bind at that so there maybe damage to the pp or flywheel.

it will start in gear, so if the disk is in backwards...it will go still.

maybe a socket or something got behind the flywheel.

turn the engine by hand backwards and forwards. make sure the key is off or batt neg is off when you do that though.

I can move the truck around in natural but WONT turn over by hand I bypassed the wires from the battery to the starter with some jumper cables and still the same thing

ill test the solenoid when I get a chance but not sure if that's the problem cuz like I said I bypassed that
so im more than likely sure that something is holding it up

theres probably something between the block and flywheel.

did you have a spacer? did you try turning it both ways with a wrench?

Something is binding. Did everything go together easily or did you have to force it? That could be where the problem is. I know this is a lot of work. But I would drop just the transmission and try to turn the motor over. At least you'll be dividing the problem.

I didn't see any spacer when replacing the clutch
putting the tranny on was a lil difficult we didn't have a tranny jack just regular jacks

How does your clutch pedal feel? Is it working correctly?
Can you push the clutch pedal in while in gear and have someone try and push the truck to see if it will roll?
Have you tried putting the transmission is in neutral and socket wrench on the big bolt (crankshaft bolt) on the front of the engine harmonic balancer and trying to turn the motor over by hand? It should turn over with some resistance do to compression and valves operating.
If not... I am afraid to say something is binding inside the bellhousing/clutch and you will have to drop the transmission again.

You can turn engine by hand with what removed or loosened? I have seen people use wrong bolts to install pressure plate and it prevents the crank from turning.

i haven't removed the clutch yet in the process of removing the tranny
but the crank wouldnt turn before
now it is but still gonna remove everything
we didnt mess with the driveshafts and transfer box...
seems like as soon as i loosened the tranny we could crank it by hand

ight so we took it all apart check everything..... engine finally turned hand cranked
put it all back slowly step by step checking to see if it binds nothing...
after putting the drive shafts on i jacked up the rear put it on jacks and put it in 1st
hand turned the motor moves like it should NO MORE BINDING:yahoo::icon_thumby:

ok so i put the starter back on the wire all connections senors etc
i go to start the truck and one CLICK happens then nothing like a completely dead battery........but the negative battery cable gets really hot:icon_confused:
checked all grounds all fine put jumper cables as grounds on the block and frame cable doesnt get hot but still the one CLICK.....:dunno:.........battery has enough juice to turn it over but it just does the one CLICK:annoyed:

starter is brand new(like two days ago new and i exchanged the other one a day before) so its not the starter

maybe i got the wrong gauge neg wire i believe its a 4 gauge is that right......

this is really frustrating i hate electrical problems :annoyed:

Brand new or rebuilt starter? Dont necessarily mean it is good. Try pulling the starter and on the ground put your foot on it and use jumper cables on the starter I doubt it is a wire size issue.
