my 88 ranger has overheating the past month or so, not so bad just needed to put coolant in a couple times a week then after a 2 hour drive the other day it overheated so i pulled over and opened the hood to find it steaming. i waited about 30 minutes till it cooled then put gallon and a half water in the radiator cuz no more coolant, then after about 3 miles got too hott again. good thing home was all downhill from there. i let it sit a day, put coolant in (was empty already! ) then tried driving again and only got about a mile before it overheated again to the point of steaming! made it back home but i dont want to risk driving anymore till its fixed, anyone know whats up? need A new radiatior? water pump?

May have cracked the heads & or head.

or it could be a simple thermostat failure. and flushing the radaitor and water pump replacement do not seem out of line

You maybe ahead getting a dye at your local parts store....and see where the dye comes out.

that would do it as well:icon_thumby:
you maybe wiser to put a early explorer radiator in it...extra cores and & goes right in with a little modifcation with the upper radiator hose.....thinking that you'll need the explorer hose.:dunno:

anyway the extra cooling capabilities would be welcomed in your warmer climate.
