When i did my 2 piece driveshaft swap, i just cut the bracket off to the crossmember with a sawzall. taking that crossmember off is just too big of a hassle.
That cross member is a structural member of the frame, it has weight bearing on it on both sides, maybe you could tap it with a deadblow up and get it out. Thats what i would try.
Honestly though, if it was me id put the cross member back on and cut that bracket off with a sawzall. Short blades worked the best for me. just my .02
and it's not like your ever going to use that POS 2 piece again

i got mine at a junk yard for $50 out of a 99 x cab.

i got everything back together i ended up cutting the cross member in half and then welded it back together :icon_welder: after removing the carrier bearing bracket.

Dude... why all the extra work??

I just crawled under there, ground off three rivets, banged them out with a 3/8 extension
, knocked the thing off and good to go. :icon_thumby:

As a side note my truck is 125" WB and I used an 03-05 4x4 Sport trac shaft. More common in my area but it was more expensive.

if you have leaking axle oil seals that short after replacing them, then theres a issue with the axle where the seal rides, pitting, or excess wear would cause a leak. not sure if theres a s.s. ring made to slide over the axle (like they do for damper pulley seal issues) or if you have to get a different axle shaft.

Rascan is right. If you have a leak that quick something is up with the shafts. What was the reason for the bearing replacement?

I do have a pair of good 28-spline 8.8 shafts I'd sell. I'd have to get a price on shipping though.

I've had axle seals leak because the vent tube is clogged and the axle heating up causes them to blow oil like mad, i'd check that before I started replacing shafts
