Hey all,
I finished up my 4.0 swap a few weeks ago and I've been noticing some noise coming from the transmission area. It has the sounds of a bad bearing and I'm thinking its the input bearing on the front of the trans or a main/countershaft bearing. When the trans was out there was a slight bit of play in the input shaft (up/down/side to side) and against my better judgement I put it in anyway because I needed the truck back on the road. The noise is most evident in 4th and 5th. It because louder when letting off the gas from cruising speed in those gears. If I listen closely I can still here the sounds until I come to a complete stop.
Any ideas?
I may just spend the $550 on a completely rebuilt unit rather than dealing with the downtime and work of the $180 rebuild kit. Do these prices seem reasonable?
