ok well solved my first gear and reverse engagement. bled the crap out of it and it works :yahoo: thanks for the help guys

now onto the noise i hear when i accel like the title says

on the highway 100 km/h 4th gear (35's and 3.55 gears) when i punch it i get the sound of marbles hitting metal coming up from my gear shifter/ rear of engine. (i dont got a boot so i hear alittle more noises then most)

what do u guys make of it? i thought it was bad gas. ran my tank empty through in some 89. same thing.

it will also do it if im going say 40 in 4th and punch it (did as for test only i dont drive like that lol)

thoughts?

I agree, sounds like ping. Check your timing, but ping can also be caused by too much load. 35's sound awful big for 3.55 gears.

think theres just to much load on my truck with 35's and 3.55 gears?

pulls hard tho considering. and i thought u couldnt do anything with the timing on these 4L motors? its in a 91 ranger if that helps.

next week im going to throw in a 4.10 rear end that i just scored with a limited slip outta 05 ranger. that should take care of it.

in regards to the gas. i ran 89 in it and it did the same. maybe try 91? just to see?

try a tank of plus, if it goes away, it's ping...

pinging is predetonation, can be caused by running too lean (too high of cylinder temperatures) or too much ignition timing, too much of it and you'll melt a piston...

the engine shouldn't ping, full load is full load, it shouldn't have pinged from the factory

Edit:
'91 4.0, clean the MAF sensor, mine pinged before I cleaned it

dont i know it

maf sensor helped...i had a new one sitting in the garage. change out the IAC because i also had a new one in the garage (yay pick n pull and stupid people). also did the throttle cable mod. rolls down the highway perfectly now. im able to accel at 1/2 to almost 3/4 throttle before i need to downshift (ie makes pinging noise)

works for me. just got a 4.10 ranger diff im going to throw in here sometime before i take my trip into the mountains (no, no 4x4ing :'( ) and move back my g/f's sister.

trying to see if i can find that 4.10 d35...its so far eluded me in the jy. and i WORK THERE lol.
