No codes, can anyone help diagnose?

Truck has had a small trans leak and shift flares for a while and lately a clunk engaging reverse. Got back from a trip over the mountains fine, tried to start it the next day and it sounds terrible like it has a huge miss. Shakes pretty bad, doesn't go away when warm, and when I put it in any gear it sounds worse. It drops rpm incrementally but will stay running and will clear up some if i'm on the gas.

went over everything else I could think of under the hood at first. MAF, IAC, EGR, plugs, vacuum lines.. basic stuff.

I read similar problems from people that had to replace torque converter, or had problems with the valve body. I'm not getting any squeal from the converter, but I had a whole gang of the valve body symptoms. Only took it about 1/8 mile down the road.

I'm inexperienced and I guess I should probably get it to a shop, but I'm a little afraid to drive it there as is

You probably should get it to a shop. I wouldn't be too afraid to drive it, at that age, and the assumed mileage that goes with it, any venture into the trans for anything will likely result in an overhaul anyway.
