If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?

“you won’t be seeing it inside a mass-produced passenger car, as it’s meant to power 18-wheelers.”

“it makes 450 hp at 1700 rpm and 1,750 lb-ft (2,372 Nm) of torque at 950 rpm. To maximize efficiency, it uses a supercharger and a turbocharger.”

It all started in 2018 with a smaller, fully functioning prototype squeezed in a Ford F-150

If the environmentalists have anything to say about it, they will kill it before it gains momentum.

They want to go whole hog into electric with wind and solar providing the power.

While I agree there is a place for wind and solar and there is a place for EV, I don’t agree they can completely replace everything.

Cummins is working with achates on a larger 4 cylinder version for military applications:

They're definitely interesting power units, but by the time they're production ready in another 2-5 years, there will be a bunch of competition from BEVs for personal vehicles, and hydrogen fuel cells will be closer to reality for commercial applications where batteries don't currently work. Neither of those has any tailpipe emissions at all, and will have lower maintenance costs. At best, these extend the life of ICEs in commercial applications a bit longer (in places where they're not going to be banned outright) until fuel cells are ready. I don't really see a realistic path forward for this tech in passenger vehicles.

I'd like to hear the media and our politicians talk about upgrading the power grid before there's any thought of mandating electric vehicles.

There are already plans for CA to ban the sale of new ICE passenger vehicles by 2035. Other states are likely to follow. Personally, I think concerns about 'the grid' are valid but typically overblown. For the most part, we make enough total power now, we just have to be smarter about where/when we use it. There are some places that need more upgrades than others of course but it evens out.

The recent bi-partisan infrastructure bill has $73 billion included to upgrade 'the grid'. Plenty of media coverage about it if you look:

California and Texas have rolling blackouts during heat waves because they can power everyone's air conditioners, forget about charging thousands of electric vehicles. I know there have been some news stories about the grid's situation but it needs to be made a priority. The "infrastructure " bill also includes $200,000,000 for a park and golf course near Pelosi's house- a huge step backwards. A huge amount of wasted energy is expended maintaining a golf course.

It's pretty old ...and they had one in a f150 at the ranger debut

There was a 4 liter version making 900 plus ft lb when my uncle was working out cgi alloy blocks with Eddie hill....which was awhile ago. Like 05 or so iirc.

I’ve always wanted to hear sports car do a 0-60 launch with all the weight and hp ratings the same, but a 2500 rpm redline.
