I have a 2000 Ranger 2.5L Automatic. over the past 3 months i have had a starting problem, i though it with the battery, then the alternator, and last the starter. all of which i have replaced. The problem is that every now and then (mostly after work to go home) i put the key in and i get nothing, not even a click from the starter, yet when i disconnect the negative battery cable and bolt it back on it starts right up. Im thinking its just a dirty connector( hopefully). if someone knows anything please let me know its becoming a real pain.

Make sure the truck is in PARK/make sure the emergency brake is engaged.
Get a friend to sit in the truck while you check out things under the hood.
Get the friend to turn the key to START 1 time----if it does not click, get the friend to turn the key to START and hold the key on start while you carefully move the postive battery cable around....

if nothing happens, move the negative cable around....

if nothing happens begin moving other wires around---1 wire at a time----or 1 harness at a time until the starter starts spinning....

then you will know if a wire or a harness or a battery cable or a relay is causing the problem

be careful while doing this!!!!
