I'm new to this forum. I have a 99 Ranger 3.0, 174,000k. Last week all of a sudden it started to miss and got a CEL. I notice it most when I take off. It cruises ok even though when I back off the throttle I can feel it when I accelerate again. Idle is also rough. I've changed the plugs and wires, still the same thing. I checked the codes and I'm getting p0302 and p0306, cyl 2 and 6 misfire detected. I've read in some of the post this may be a coil pack. Any way for me to test this before I spend $90. Also could it be anything else.
Thanks

Yup. sounds like the coil pack... If you have a digital volt meter, you can ohm out the coil (ie. measure the impedance). The coil pack is setup to fire two cyl at the same time. I'm guessing that cyl 2 and 6 are on the same coil so pop those two spark plug wires on top of the coil pack and stuff the DVM probes into each terminal. If it's good you'll get a fairly high resistance measurement. I don't know the spec off hand but if the coil is burned open your meter will read as such. Hope that helps...
