maybe another ranger

I have an opportunity to get a 91 xlt for $5-600. The old guy who has it bought it new in 91. It's a 4wd (manual hubs and t-case), 5 speed, 2.9 v6. It was driven to where it is now, and hasnt ran since (about a year and a half). It shows 14k on the odometer (probably 114k), and it's got its dents and scrapes, but it is a 91. Supposedly it has a bad head and runs like crap, but it was moving under its own power last time it was touched. I might be able to fix the 2.9, or if its pretty easy I could swap in the 3.0 out of my 93 and do something bigger and better with the splash. What do you guys think? Would it be worth it?

I say jump on it. It doesn't look like the body is in that bad of shape. Whip out the ol' buffer, and I bet it looks awsome!

Looks like it has a little bit of lift on it too.

I personally hate the cap (all caps that is) I would remove the cap and buff it up a little. Work on the motor and you would have a great Ranger. I love the body style!!

that thing is so nice i could not even sacrifice it and use it for a wheeling rig! that looks like a PRIME chance for a 302 swap!

Caps make trucks functional during the winter part of the year in northern climates.

Is there any wheel lip left if you pull them off though? It's a good way to hide rust.

Regardless ... the body looks straight as hell. I'd drop a 4.0L OHV in and call it good.

I personally don't like shoveling a foot of snow out of the bed each week. To each his own in their respective climates

The mustang and the other ranger (with no engine) are taking up both garage stalls for the time being as well.

I repeat ... do not put a 3.0 in that thing. It may run forever, but it would still be the middle ground concession between a 2.3L and a 4.0L (neither mileage nor balls).

hey, nice lookin' rig - my vote is for a 4.0 swap, if ya can't fix the 2.9

btw: on the "cap" issue - personally I like 'em, on the other hand when it does snow, I've seen people (with out caps) fill their bed up with the white stuff for extra weight/traction

Caps are handy for camping and keeping your stuff dry, but to each his own. The one currently on my truck looks like ass since it's probably older than my truck. I only paid $20 for it though, and it's coming off for the winter.
