I have an 89 ranger 4x4 with a 2.9. I don't like automatics so I want to swap it to a standard.
Read through the tech pages and many threads and decided on a m50d from a 4.0 rbv. Everything i read said that a 4.0 trans will work behind a 2.9. Went to the junkyard and found a 93 4.0 ranger with the trans I was looking for. Slid underneath and found that it wasn't the original trans for that truck so it was probably rebuilt. Pulled everything that I needed and headed to the house.
I get the a4ld out an find that the bell housings and flywheel is completely different.
Wtf? Am I missing something or doing something wrong? Did I not get a trans from a 4.0? I swear it had six cylinders when I was fighting the trans to get it out.
Help!
