Looking at ideas for the 1990 roller I have sitting here. Have heard the 4.9 swap is possible, wanted to see if anyone knew anything about this one I found.

At idle.

It's kind of amazing how far forward that radiator is. I like the 300, but that's a weird fit for a Ranger engine bay. A few have done it over the years, but is it really worth it?

For what is arguably the most reliable engine ever made... sure it's worth it!

Why there aren't still inline 6 truck engines baffles the crap out of me. Even the chevy 292 straight six was a unkillable beast.

Honestly, only one way to find out!

Been reading up on the single and twin turbo 300 builds. Holy hell the torque those engines push.

The goal is low rev torque animal on a RBV frame that runs like a tractor.

Call it the FordAll or FEERE depending on paint.

Keep it sh*tty, tractor muffler with flapper and all sticking out of the hood/fender/bed. The idea crossed my mind as one point to take advantage of the long bed on the 1990 and mid engine the SOB, but I do want to retain use of the bed, so that's out.

Don't care if this one winds up cut to f*ck and back. It was headed for the crusher anyways, so why not build something fun and just plain hilarious out of it?

If I can tune a 2.9, this shouldn't be too bad. ??

The 2.9 build was pretty uncharted waters. The 300 not so much.

With your goal in mind the 300 is perfectly suited unless you wanna burn diesel.

Youre gonna have alot of "is it worth it" questions....which are fair, but to have an engine as reliable as the 300 pounding the cookie cutter 302s? Absolutly.

Fir some reason the smell of diesel burning flips my stomach, and I break out like hell when I get diesel fuel on my skin. So, if I want low and slow, 300 seems like the only logical choice in order to avoid diesel.

I'd say no vehicle project I attempt is worth it, tbh. The 2.9 build is about challenging myself and trying everything I've ever wanted to try on an engine/chassis to see what it does; KaP is my Guinea Pig. A lot of cool stuff has come out of it (Volvo steering pump, Megasquirt info for Colognes, etc), and I'm twice the wrench nowadays vs. when I started.

If I do this one just wrong enough, I'll get the ultimate Redneck truck out of it. ??

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
See if you can put a blower on it instead of a turbo.

Or both.

There was a short thread on one within this last year. Red in color. Wasn't much detail on what exactly was done. I believe he was a retired ford mechanic. I think it was also up for sale.

Besides that there's no way to make a diesel not sound like crap.

You haven't heard my 6.7, but that's all relative anyway.

Just do electric, instant torque, beat all those "I wasted my money on gas and diesel engines" fools off the line

Why would you bed mount twin turbos when you have so much room on either side of the engine?

My name submission is FURD
